I would also argue that those love scenes on Naboo were worse than Jar Jar could ever hope to be.

It seems that the pod race, one of the few redeeming parts of TPM, is disliked by many folks here. It also happens to be my favorite home theater demo. Go figure. Makes me wonder, if someone didn't like the pod race, what was left to like in TPM? Darth Maul maybe?

Speaking for myself only, it wasn't so much that I disliked the pod race... it was just that the damn thing seemed to go on for hours. (It's even *lengthened* for DVD... ugh!)

Trimming that sequence down would have made it more exciting, and also given more time to explain things about the Jedi/The Force/the Sith that are important later on, or left unexplained. Episode I actually does a pretty mediocre job of 'setting the stage', if it's truely meant to be watched first.

I'm not a prequel hater, and there are lots of great moments, but I would have preferred a 10 minute soliloquy from Jar Jar rather than the waterfall/picnic/love scene on Naboo between Annakin and Padme. That was simply brutal, and it was one of the rare moments in the series where Williams' music (or at least the editing of it) actually made the scene WORSE.

Speaking of bad puns, I just caught one in ROTS. When Anakin kills Dooku (after chopping both of his hands off), he laments to Palpatine that he shouldn't have killed him because Dooku was "an unarmed prisoner". Unarmed...get it. :lol:

I was anticipating the tears I would have to shed if we found out Grevious was coughing because of a "virus." Thank God they didn't go down that road...though I can hardly believe they let something that obvious pass by.

Best

1. Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon Jinn. Portrays a Jedi master just the way I would envision one. Calm and always in control. The most effective character in TPM. (TPM)
2. Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi, especially in ROTS. I totally felt him as he cried to Anakin on the bank of the lava river about being his brother, about loving him. He sold that scene. (TPM/AOTC/ROTS)
3. Ian McDiarmid's Chancellor/Emporer Palpatine. Effective scene between him and Anakin in ROTS as he preys on Anakin's fears. And props to Lucas for letting his characters converse for an extended period of time. (TPM/AOTC/ROTS)
4. The pod race. One of the most thrilling action sequences in any of the prequels. (TPM)
5. Any view of Coruscant. Attention to the smallest details of the various locations shown. It's just a cool place. (TPM/AOTC/ROTS)
6. Any massive gathering of armies on the battle field. Trade Federation moving in on Queen Amidala. Gungans and droids on Naboo, even if the ensuing battle was silly. Beginning of the Clone Wars on Geonosis. (TPM/AOTC)
7. "Duel of the Fates." (TPM/ROTS)
8. The duel between Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Maul. (TPM)
9. Chasing the assassin through Coruscant. (AOTC)
10. Anakin's descent to the Dark Side. Emotional and powerful. I didn't want him to go down that path. It was a genuine tragedy. (ROTS)
11. The duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin, although it could have been drawn out a little more. (ROTS)

Even

1. Jar Jar Binks. I actually don't think he is among the worst elements of the PT. Wooden acting is one of the biggest complaints people have with the PT, and Jar Jar is the most animated (no pun intended) character present. (TPM/AOTC/ROTS)
2. Midichlorians. Borders on a poor decision, but might be misunderstood. (TPM/AOTC/ROTS)
3. Jango Fett being the template for the clones. I'm undecided. Just makes Boba's unceremonious death in ROTJ feel all the more like a mistake. (AOTC/ROTS)
4. R2-D2's jet engines. Concept wasn't used in the OT, but I have no problem with them. They're a nice touch. Although I don't understand how R2 seemed to know exactly where to go in the droid construction plant to help Padme, or how he knew in the first place that she was even in need of help. (AOTC/ROTS)
5. Yoda wielding a lightsaber. Okay, but almost comical in AOTC. (AOTC/ROTS)
6. General Grievous. Kind of creepy, but not the horrific villain he was touted as being. Most intimidating moment was when he came at Obi-Wan with four lightsabers, two of them spinning like helicopter blades. (ROTS)
7. The end of ROTS. Great, but felt rushed. (ROTS)

Worst

1. Wooden acting. (TPM/AOTC/ROTS)
2. Much of the dialog. With better acting it might have been tolerable. There was silly dialog in the OT, too, but Hamill, Ford, Fisher, et al, provided genuine emotion behind the words. This is why I say Jar Jar is not a curse on the PT. Ahmed Best gave him more life than the flesh-and-blood actors gave their characters. (TPM/AOTC/ROTS)
3. The Gungans. Their city was a CGI marvel, but they were annoying as hell. (TPM)
4. Samuel L. Jackson's Mace Windu. Could have been a great character, but Jackson's portrayal was terrible, especially in ROTS. (TPM/AOTC/ROTS)
5. Anakin's exclamations of "Yippee!," and "Take this! And this!" when firing at the droids. (TPM)
6. Anakin's whiney nature; behavior and dialog whenever he and Padme are alone together. I agree with Mad Dawg that Anakin is at his best when he's pensive and silent. (AOTC)
7. The love story. "Across the Stars" is great, though. (AOTC)
8. The reference to Master Sifo-Dyas. Apparently the one who ordered the creation of the clone army more than ten years before the events of AOTC. But no characterization is ever given, and the reference ends up confusing. At least to me. (AOTC)
9. C-3PO's cringe-inducing puns. (AOTC)
10. Vader's "Noooooo!" Overdone, but so was Doc Ock when he did the exact the same thing in Spider-Man 2. Same physical gestures, too. (ROTS)

ROTS best: The "oh it's on bitch" look Obi Wan gives Anakin after being backhanded when they are dueling outside the complex.

ROTS worst: The groaning noises Palpatine makes after saying "Good...gooooooooooooooooooood" to Anakin...I laugh everytime cause it sounds like he is taking a huge dump under his robes.

No, it's far worse. The worst character in the saga, sniffing a fart and saying "peeeeee-eewwwsa" is horrid. I actually laughed at the frog burping. I thought that was an innocent little scene.
