best star pilot in the galaxy?

from those who have seen Ep III... do we get to see evidence that Anakin/Vader was the best? I mean, Obiwan says it in IV.. and we get demos in Ep I and some in II too... but is there more of him kickin' butt from the seat of a fighter in III?

I think if Lucas had thought of Vader as Anakin, he would've inserted more of those type of scenes in Ep IV, as we only get a small glimpse of him killing some fighter pilots at the end, one of whom was really fat, I believe.

The opening has him flying in some space dog fights. The toon also had him doing some fancy flying.

I'm still waiting for some evidence he was a "good friend". The relationship between Obi-Wan and Annie seems a little rocky to me.

Of course Ben is going to tell Luke his father was the best. He was not only trying to be a friend but was also going to try to guilt-trip Luke into joining the rebellion. It sure wouldn't be nice for him to go: "Geez Luke, your dad sucked as a pilot. He always had to be saved and always crashed the ships. Heck, this Gungan named Jar-Jar could fly circles around him any day and Jar Jar never got near a cockpit."

and... "He always whined, frequently disobeyed me, a pretty stubborn brat i'd say."

Well when ol' Ben looks back on his life he realizes Anakin was the only "friend" he ever had. It's kinda like meeting people from high school who you barely knew and they act like you two were "good friends" Well, at least that has happened to me already.

lol, a little cynical eh? I'd agree if it wasn't Obi Wan we were talking about. He's pretty much the all around good guy... don't see him lying very much in the six films. The one time of note that he does, about anakin being vader... he does to protect the secret/luke from being taken out.

I dunno, I just wanna see Anakin kickin butt in a fighter. His character is introduced as being a bad azz pilot in Ep I... he's pretty much the only human who can pod race right? We get to see some a bit of fancy flying in Ep II when he is chasing the hitman guy (girl?). Then in IV, Obiwan says he's "the man" in a fighter. Gimme more lucas!

I've got to agree with resinrats on this. By the time Episode IV happens old Ben was cynical and hitting the sauce pretty hard. He was more gin than man.
