Aren't those tell-tale signs? Those cars and television weren't around in any decade prior to the 60s and they're certainly not prevalent nowadays. Maybe it takes place in the 70s, but what would be the point of Romero doing that? I'm not doubting that humans have been fighting the zombies for 35 or so years, but then how would modern weapons/vehicles and pop culture develop (all stuff showed in the 'Land' trailer)?

I know, I should suspend disbelieve, but this is far too egregious to simply brush off.

The Sideways and Sin City trailers were both excellent (I just wish the music in Sin City was as cool as the song used in the trailer). Another recent favorite was the meta-trailer for Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

I have a love/hate relationship with trailers. There's a lot of untapped potential. I don't mind the mismarketing as much as the spoilers though. "Now you're going to have to deal with both of us!"

If Romero could film these movies just years apart, he would have. You just have to accept a screwy timeline with this franchise. It wasn't meant to be picked apart.

To be fair, the music usually isn't complete by the time the trailer is cut.

For about a 10 year period, I was ready to cut off my ears every time a trailer used "Carmina Burana" or the "Aliens" soundtrack.

limits on music cues depend on the client's willingness to pay for them, which is rare. but i have been fortunate to be a part of some great cues -- not very original but we had the 'requiem for a dream' cue rescored to suit the 'two towers' trailer.

Oh, I understand why it's done. I'm just disagreeing with the notion that most trailers are made with the intent of showing a film off as "unique."

i was speaking for me and the company i work with -- not the entire trailer cutting industry. my resumé speaks for itself -- lord of the rings trilogy, spider-man 2, kill bill vol 1 & 2, sin city, sideways, king kong, etc.

And about the inconsistencies between films. Each film is meant to represent it's real-world time period and reflect it's problems, even though they don't take place that far apart. Dawn is few weeks after Night and Day is 6 months - 1 year after Dawn. Land is three years after Night.

It's kind of like comic books. When Iron Man came out his origin was tied to Vietnam and the Fantastic Four were trying to win the space race. It's 40 years later, but the characters have only aged a few years.

The music in the trailer is actually music from the film "Resident Evil", a movie that Romero was actually kicked off of.

The Sin City ones kept me going through a difficult period in my life. A wretched time that only ended when the movie finally came out.

I thought it was interesting that Manute’s dialogue was altered to say “The truce of Sin City will be shattered.” I don’t object, I like the comics style ring it has to it. Y’know, once I downloaded those trailers I watched them between 1 and 5 times a day up until the release and still have them for when I get the itch while waiting for the DVD. Thanks Cygnet74.

I can’t wait to get home and see the LotD trailer. But, regardless, Romero + zombies = me in the theater at least once for this one.
I thought Asia Argento looked meta-hot in that production photo. She’s be-yooooo-tiful. (I don’t do the drool, though. I’m at work and a consummate professional.)
