BoxOfficeMojo.com lists the film's production costs, although I'm not sure if that includes advertising costs. Anyways, you can just subtracts the costs from the overall box office total to figure out profit numbers.

For many movies, it also lists the reported marketing costs for the film, in addition to the production costs.

Welcome to the forum In the future things like this (that are more related to movies and not to DVDs) would be better suited for the Movie forum (look down the list a bit on the main page).

No motion picture has ever made a profit. Just ask any studio that has faced a lawsuit seeking part of the profits.

Film profits are tightly guarded, and are never made public. Never.

But that's doesn't stop anyone (including me) to argue about profitibility and box office success, when clearly we don't know shit.

I invite you to join in.

My understanding is actors who get gross points on a movie can rake in millions on a hit movie. While actors who get net points never see a dime. I am sure if Leo got net points on Titanic, the studio is still claiming the movie is in the red and it will take years to recoup there losses.

You have to consider that studios make about 55 - 65% of each ticket sold.

So take the gross, multiply x 0.60, subtract marketing and production costs, and then pretend like you know what you're talking about and factor in DVD Sales, Rentals, and Cable/Broadcast rights. Then subtract any actor that has points/gross profit coming in their direction.

Should give a decent idea.
