Wow those are great numbers for Sin City. It's going to outgross most box office predictions. Great to see there, it'll get to 30 plus million.

Great job, although I suspect a steep drop. Most of the audience I saw it with were like, "huh?" I loved it though.

Britany snow is bringing in the repeat pedophiles.

Edit: Just checked. She's legal. So I guess they're not pedophiles. Just fans.

True, but the droppage from Friday to Sunday is a bit disturbing. It shows this film will not have strong legs.

The geeks saw it, the rest of the world moves on to FEVER PITCH and SAHARA next week (maybe).

yeah...i can't believe that. usually movies spike on Saturday whether it just opened or not. i thought for sure this would break $30, still it made a lot more then i am sure the studio and everyone involved thought and will recoup a pretty penny at the end of the run.

My guess is that Sin City will have the same box office gross as the Kill Bill movies, a take of $60 to $65 million.
The drop from Friday to Sunday is disturbing as Scott Shelton indicated and frankly I don't foresee this movie grossing more than $100 million. I guess next week gross will be the biggest indicator.

Considering it had a $40 million budget and will do very well on DVD, "Sin City" is a decent hit for such an experimental movie.

Sin City is the type of movie that splits audiences, and has a bit of a following.

The Spike/drop from Friday to Saturday isn't a surprise at all, actually it's quite common. Doesn't mean it won't have strong legs (which I doubt it will), just typical for specialized movies with a following/hype.

Still opened $10m higher than most seemed to have expected. Hopefully studios will take a few more risks these days with $40m experimental pics than $80m sequels (Son of the Mask).

But yeah, $28.1m is a strong opening for an experimental, R-rated action movie that is, oh yeah, black and white.

Another case of a huge front load opening. But it still reached 3/4 of what its budget was in the first weekend alone. Regardless of the amount it drops, this will go well past its production budget and cover marketing easy and turn a profit.

Then you add in DVD sales and you can easily say this movie did well beyond great. not exactly 30 million, but around there.

Im glad it did this well and they didnt have a huge budget, thanks to Rodriguez. I really hope that means we can have more Sin City in the near future. I for one would love to see more. I never knew anything about Sin City before seeing it on Friday and now I wanna read it all and see more films.

I actually would have been shocked if it wasn't #1 this weekend. This movie had hype out the wazoo and I know a lot of under-17 kids who begged their parents to take them (or tagged along when I went) b/c they heard it was "so cool". Now I'm really curious to hear what the non-comic fanboy crowd thought of it. Being a huge film noir fan I loved that aspect of it, and the b&w just added to that feel, but I'm sure some people will be put off by the graphic violence. Oh well...

We've finally come to the era of the 40 million dollar "experimental" film.

The guy in front of me wasn't allowed to buy tickets, because he didn't have an ID saying he was 17+ (looked 20-ish to me). When it happened I was worried because I didn't have my ID either so my fiancee had to buy the tickets. I felt like a total goob. At least I can say without much doubt I was the only guy at the movie with an actual girl.

Jack, you said it all brother. This is the kind of film that will most likely make more than it cost in its theatrical run and, like Hellboy last year at this time, is almost guaranteed to sell a DVD to every single fan who watched it. Given that the DVD will most likely run around $17 a pop, or $50 if they do a deluxe one with a figurine (come on, surely they will!) , I would say this movie is gonna be money in the bank.

Interesting that Rodriguez, while being a major innovator, tends to only make movies that he knows will turn a profit and make money for him.

I just meant that it's nice to see that people, especially teens, haven't been turned off by the black and white, and that it hasn't hurt box office. I remember this being a concern raised even before Schindler's List was released.

80k and Guess Who would have beat Beuty Shop. That would have been icing on the cake that is Sin City.
