Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (D: Stahelski) -- S: Michael B. Jordan

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Novice filmmaker Zack Snyder has been tapped to develop and direct the upcoming espionage thriller "Rainbow Six," based on the Tom Clancy novel, for Paramount Pictures.

The story centers on a CIA operative who leaves the agency to create a British-based antiterrorism squad.

Various writers have been attached to the project since it was brought into the studio in 1999, including Art Monterastelli, Frank Capello, John Enbom, Michael Shiffer and Bill Wisher.

Paramount has produced a string of Clancy titles, including "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games," "Clear and Present Danger" and "The Sum of All Fears."

It also has acquired Clancy's "Red Rabbit."

Snyder made his feature directing debut with last year's horror picture "Dawn of the Dead." He also is attached to direct "300" for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Dawn of the Dead was well done, so this should be great!

Dawn of the Dead was poorly done, so this should be not great!

He's an excellent choice to direct this movie, particularly given all those scenes about
Spoiler:
undead flesh-eating zombies
in Clancy's book.

Come now, Clark wasn't that over the hill, Duder.

I think he's a good choice for Rainbow Six. The way the characters were holding the guns in Dawn was very tactical. Snyder was also one of the special forces guarding the president in the opening montage. I think he knows a lot about the military, which is what we need for a Rainbow Six movie.

Interesting choice. I really don't have an opinion on the guy yet, so I'll have to see how it plays out.

Is it a Jack Ryan movie?

I thought Affleck did a really good job, in all honesty, in the last one.

Wow, this is a far cry from Garden State, so it should be interesting to see what he does with a budget.

No,it's a John Clark movie. Willem Dafoe was the original Clark in Clear and Present Danger. Liev Schreiber was the new and improved younger John Clark in Sum of All Fears.

I don't even think the Jack Ryan character was directly in the book.

That'd be Zach Braff.

Anyhow - I like the choice for director. I think he did a good job w/ DotD last year.

I wonder if they will go w/ Liev to play Clark again?

And who will they get to play Chavez? It better not be Wilmer Valderrama!

Always thought Wilem Defoe was a good choice for Clark. I believe it was the older Clark in the book so hopefully they'll have Defoe back.

Of course it was the older Clark in the book, but Paramount turned the clock back on the age of the characters w/ its last Clancy flick, Sum of All Fears, and I would put a hefty wager that they will do the same w/ this one.

After watching Spartan, Val Kilmer would be perfect as John Clark.

I loved Dawn of the Dead, so I'm looking forward to this (our interview with Zach is here, for those who are interested).

Looking forward to the movie, but I predict a possible sharp decline in the quality of the game series in the future if they try to incorporate a movie tie-in.

And as for Zach Snyder, I was surprised with the Dawn of the Dead remake (I was in the camp that thought the remake would suck balls, but I came out loving it); so hopefully he can show off his skills once again with this flick.

And if Snyder screws it up, not much of a loss. I'm not a big Clancy fan.
