Butterfly Effect 2: Less Kutcher, More Leonetti?

From Rotten Tomatoes:

Scott Weinberg writes: "New Line aims to produce a sequel to last year's modest hit "The Butterfly Effect" -- but don't expect to see Ashton Kutcher on board. According to Variety, the "pic will have all new characters, meaning (the) original's star, Ashton Kutcher, isn't expected to be involved." The follow-up will be directed by John Leonetti ("Mortal Kombat: Annihilation") from a screenplay by Michael Weiss ("Octopus," "Crocodile"). Creators of the original "Butterfly Effect," Eric Bress & J. Mackye Gruber, will receive a 'story by' credit on the sequel. Bress & Gruber are presently working on "A Cool Breeze on the Underground," also for New Line."

Thats right. John "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" Leonetti. Can't wait!

Although I didn't Like The Butterfly Effect all that much and I'm not very familiar with those filmmakers, I think the butterfly effect plot line has a lot of promise...if they come up with a good story.

I kind of liked the first one but this definately goes into the "the movies that don't need sequels" category for me.

What a shit idea from New Line. I can't see why studios allow things like this to happen.

I only kind of liked the film the first time I saw it but I watched it again and it really grew on me. I have ZERO interest in a bastardized sequel.

Do you expect any less from the studio that brought us such hits as Dumb and Dumberer and Son of the Mask?

I'm totally disgusted with New Line. Not only is making a sequel to The Butterfly Effect as totally crazy as making a sequel to something like Donnie Darko or Mulholland Dr., but it's not even by the original creators? COME ON!

Well it's by the guy who made Mortal Kombat Annhilation. So, at least we know it won't be mildly bad. Instead it'll be craptastically awful to the Boll degree.

You'd think a movie like MK2 would sink someone's directing career, but it never works that way.

BUMP

Has anyone seen this yet? I liked the first one a lot, and I'm hoping against hope this might actually be worth a rental. Probably not.

The trailer I saw on tv didn't make it look all that good, but I always reserve judgment until seeing the actual movie.

Never thought I'd see the day DVDTalk posters would fret over a DTV sequel to a silly Ashton Kutcher flick.

I liked the original, but this one most likely sucks.
