From Ain't It Cool News:
Don’t Forget!! Universal’s SERENITY Trailer Goes Live In A Few Hours!!

I am – Hercules!!

"Serenity" isn’t due till Sept. 30, but it’s already got itself a dang trailer! It appears on the Apple Movie Trailers site on Tuesday. I was a little hazy on exactly when, so I was going to suggest everyone just keep checking that Apple Movie Trailers site for the next 30 hours or so.

Then the film's writer-director - who doesn’t blame me even a little bit for ruining his many excellent TV shows with incessant and unnecessary spoilers – wrote in with this:

That piece about the trailer in AICN was awfully disrespectful of you, I thought. It made us out to be butt-buddies, which apart from that one magical night under the stars is TOTALLY untrue.

Later on, -j.
Joss is, of course, lying about that last bit. We are still the biggest butt-buddies. Ever. Despite the surprisingly cold and lawyerly tone of his representatives’ cease-and-desist letters.

I digress.

Beginning 4 p.m. New York time, bask in every ounce of “Serenity’s” ZOIC-y greatness!!

Then we all get to go to the movies on Friday and see that same trailer on the big screen. Probably before “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.” Maybe before that movie with the chubby, middle-aged rapper who replaces Vin Diesel as “XXX.” Hopefully not before “House of D.” But no promises are made!!

From the article, Joss said it was going to be filled with spoilers. Besides the obvious shots of reaver ships and alliance ships, I really didnt see anything in it that would be a major spoiler... considering what events happen in the film.. there was far worse spoilers to be had.

Trailer did kick some major ass

Good looking trailer, although I was amped to see this movie regardless. Only two complaints. First, it's not gonna attract too many non-Firefly fans. And secondly, it looks like Joss caved in and included a bunch of Star Wars-esque space battles. I was afraid he'd do that. One of the coolest things about Firefly was how it dealt with space realistically(i.e. no sound or explosions).

Actually the "space battle" is pretty much grounded to a practical Joss style

Spoiler:
The crew is expecting a trap from alliance ships, so they get mixed up into a motherload of reaver ships and lead them out following them directly into the alliance ships. The battle last less then a few minutes and it's all about Serenity navigating through to escape.

it's really handled very well.

Yup, I totally agree with you. Watched the trailer the first time in my store w/ 5 guys that have never seen the show & all of them said "ehhh...." looks like every other Sci-Fi movie they've seen or too much like a Star Wars-rip off.

I on the other hand am even more psyched. It looks awesome. Loved the line by Jane: "Lets be bad guys".

I think that they went with the wrong approach with the whole "creator of buffy" considering that marketing ploy didn't work when fox did it during its tv run.

As a non-Firefly fan (never saw the show), that trailer did nothing for me in regards to wanting to go see the movie.

I think that was the least of their wrong approaches to the TV series.

I thought it was great, but I too don't think it's going to appeal to non-fans. It's going to be a hard sell, maybe they could get Fox or F/X to do another run of the show over the summer.

As for spoilers, the biggest one I saw, was what I didn't see, or rather who I didn't see.

(Opinion from someone who knows nothing at all about this show)

It looks sort of like a big budget Sci-Fi channel original to me. Maybe they just chose some cheesy lines for the trailer but I'm not really that excited about this. I also didn't like the "YOU SHOULD ALREADY BE A FAN OF THIS YOU JACKASS!" tone that the trailer gave.

Well, the problem is more people should be fans, , the problem is the that the jackasses are actually the programming people at Fox TV.

Interesting.

I watched the trailer and loved it, it seems like what I hoped it would be, retaining the spirit of the show and characters, but making it bigger (for the big screen). Granted, its just a trailer, but Mal, Jane, and Wash all seemed spot on (Oh God, Oh God, we're all going to die...lol)

However, I love the series, so I've been primed to respond to certain aspects of the trailer.

What is weird is the blurbs in a theaterical trailer. This is the sort of thing thats usually reserved for TV commercials...and if you're unitiated to the while Serenity or Joss Whendon world, I can see how it could come off as pompous.

Well... you should be a fan of this already, you jackass.

Yeah, I agree with you on the aspect that the trailer really did appeal towards the fans only so far or the fans of buffy, which didn't cross promote well before anyways. So lets see if they start appealing towards the non-fans closer to release.

From what I know and heard from Joss himself, he said they were shooting to re-air the episode on sci-fi network. atleast that was the plan in other countries. Lets see what issues that presents with fox/universal in the states.

He has the smallest role in the film. Joss said that with 9 characters to develope in two hours time, he just didn't have any extra time to work in Book for more than what he is in it. Which is about a whole 5-10 minutes worth.

A real shame also. They do poke interest into how a man of the cloth knows so much about the alliance, but they never get into it. A real shame indeed.
