Gutz, for someone who "loved" Buffy, you are showing no love to Joss, who made the entire show possible. Are you upset that Serenity is getting made before a potential Slayer-verse movie? That'll get done in time, after Sarah has some time away from the character and Joss is free from Wonder Woman.

I said, that the show had the magic to capture viewers attention.Firefly maybe a "cult, underground" classic but it will never reach the same level as Buffy/Angel did. It won't happen. Sorry, there are not too many people into "cowboys in space".
Buffy the movie is inevitable. I was about to say what you said. Whedon will realize that the only way to make $$$ is from Buffy, not from Firefly/Serenity or upcoming Wonder Woman.
SMG will realize that her carrier is going down the drain and Scooby Doo isn't that hot.
She will come back for Buffy, we all have to pay rent. The questions remains...when will it happen?

I will not show love to Whedon or any screenwriter who makes poor tv series.
Yet you show unquestioned love to his X-files franchise which pretty much fell short after season 7.

As for Whedon, he's making tons of cash from other non-buffy items. From writing Astonishing X-men (hey, I thought you were a comic maniac?) to working on Wonder Woman. Buffy is behind him in the past. Move on buddy.

Jav G: I haven't seen entire season because after a few episodes I just couldnt bare it.
The pain, the suffering...
Youknowjack: Exactly, Christ Carter did superb job with X-Files but then after he became rich he didn't care about LONE GUNMEN or MILLENIUM.
Also, stop using word LOVE. You cant love something that cant love you back.
You may like a show but not love it. Scooby Doo 2 was a piss poor sequel which did NO money whatsoever. WB executives said that it was big let down.
We won't see Scooby Doo 3 anytime soon.
As for forever young SMG, trust me man, you didn't see her bills and taxes our days are freaking insane.
Finally, I am a comic book maniac but I just can't stand X-MEN. Not my cup of tea. I'm into Batman, The Punisher, Star Wars and etc. Not X-MEN!
I'm not a crazy, obsessed dude who knows what Whedon eats and drinks every day. He makes books? Good for him...
My point is that Firefly/Serenity is not Whedon's best weapon.
Buffy is the past, however, Firefly will NEVER be present or future.

Geez Gutz, seriously why don't you actually WATCH Firefly before calling it terrible. There has to be some reason that a cancelled, barely seen TV show sold so well on DVD...having seen the show on DVD, I know why. And I can't wait to see the film, especially since I missed my chance before to see it.
Nonetheless, you seem to be saying...you know better then Universal executives, that they were stupid to finance this movie. Then you seem to say that all movies have to appeal to everyone, which is completely absurd.
Bah...I won't even bother anymore...simple truth is, Firefly has its fan base and has definite potential to be a moderate hit. I doubt it'll become a blockbuster, but it doesn't need to be to be successful. What this message board definately doesn't need though, is some guy who's never seen the show proclaiming how awful it is and how nobody will like it because of his opinion. Much like the Batman thread, you seem to put way too much stock into your personal opinion. Then you're rude about it. Booooo is all I have to say.

Worldwide gross of $181 million... yeah, that stinker was terrible and made no money! That's not including dvd sales and licensing.

Like I said, the movie market does not depend on Amazon sales.
What's Amazon anyway? How many people shop there?
Do you shop at Amazon? Dont think so.
So, you're trying to say that if the movie sells at Amazon it must be super hit. You're wrong.
I bet that Serenity will not make more then $ 20 mil or maybe even less.

My advice to Whedon would be to bring Buffy/Angel back. It's his ground and he could make tons of money from it. Rather then wasting time and money (and making some crap)

Gutz, threadcrapping is against forum rules. If you aren't interested in the movie, then please do not post in the thread.

You even conceeded that Highlander had a weak first season. Firefly, as it orginally aired, was somewhat weak in its first few episodes, but it really got on track fast. Seeing the show in the proper order does really put in a new light, as converted fans have attested to.

I'm willing to take that bet. As for what does Amazon have in the impact? Well it's a place that sells dvds. So we can take it as an example on how a certain title is doing.
Take for example FAMILY GUY. the sales figures on amazon are great. In turn, you can jump to the conclusion that the dvd sales of family guy at all stores is well.
What happened with Family Guy? Fox saw these sales figures and it was a kick to the head on how much potential Family Guy had. Now Family Guy is back on the air.
Do you want to argue some more about seeing sales figures is pointless? What I'm saying is that considering Firefly is selling well on amazon, you can make an assumption that it has a second life in it after the death of it on tv.
So when the film comes out, there is new viewers that discovered it. Simple logic if you ask me.

DEAD: I understand. Thanks!
Ok, fine! I will get TV series and will watch it entirely.
I will be back and unleash the fury
I will tell you why this tv series won't be appealing to masses as Buffy/Angel were, or maybe I'll like it very much.
Is there any specific character I should pay attention to? Who or what makes Firefly a cult classic?
NitroJMS: Thanks for the complement.

If you want to compare Family Guy compare to South Park, Simpsons..whatever.
I dont think that your example of Family Guy will be applied to Serenity.
That's all.

Time will tell, we shall see. Still, you are trying to compare Family Guy to Firefly. Don't you think it's unfair comparision? Different genres? Audience? and etc?

So if you are going to complain about the show, why bother coming in here to post about it? You're main kick is to get a reaction from folks. How about you stop with the flame baiting?

Don't you think that message boards exist for POSITIVE and NEGATIVE reviews?
I still entitled to my opinion even if I won't like tv series as you did.

Negative reviews are great. But you haven't seen either the movie and have not given the show any chance before your review comes out lashing it and whedon.
If you're going to just come in here to thread crap, don't bother. If you want to have a civil discussion about it that's a different matter. You are showing no signs of that.

Alright Gutz, you've made your opinion know 50 times over here already -- we get it already, you hate the show. You think it's gonna tank at the box office. And you're definitely entitled to your opinion.
So that's all the more reason why all the Firefly fans are banding together and trying as best we can to get the word out about one of our favorite shows/movies. (I saw the sneak preview in Providence RI, and the movie is as good as anything Joss did on Buffy)
So don't begrudge us our support of Firefly -- we're having fun, not hurting anyone, and standing behind something we believe in. If you don't like it, that's cool, just don't come in here and threadcrap. Go read a pile of Star Wars comics. ( I'll stick with Planetary by Warren Ellis and Ex Machina by Brian K. Vaugn)

What makes Firefly a cult classic?

See what happens when you run your mouth a lot. When you ask for advice or actually have something serious to ask/say you aren't taken serious.
You really want to know? It's an assemble piece. The whole cast brings a lot to the table. Malcom Reynolds is the ships captain and he has a lot of witty one liners. He is a hard edge character with a soft side just trying to get by. Both him and Jayne Cobb, played by adam baldwin steal a lot of the shows laugh.
A lot of the cast has moments that stay without and add witty comments mixed in with western style adventures in space. This sort of balance of both being a space adventure and a western make it a cult classic.
It's very original and provides great story telling.

As for it being a blcokbuster mainstream film...it won't. Nobody expects it to. Universal didn't greenlight it with the idea it'd make 150 million dollars. Quite frankly I doubt it'll make more then 50 or 60 million, but for this film that'd be successful enough. You can't make the ridiculous assumption that every film must appeal to everybody, cause it won't. This is a niche product appealing to a limited audience, and within that niche it has every chance to succeed. It has a release date of Spetember and a moderate budget...nobody expects it to be a smash blockbsuter. But very likely it'll do ok, make some decent cash, clean up on DVD (whcih the tv show did) and be a successful franchise of its own.
