Red Eye

I just saw the preview for the new Wes Craven flick Red Eye with Rachel McAdams. The trailer is perfect, not giving away hardly anything about the plot, and it had me hooked and wanting more.

I think the film looks good. In this day and age of trailers that give away way too much (like Craven's last film, Cursed), this trailer gave away just enough. I want to see it.

I just completed a short film last week about a grim reaper who develops a relationship with a woman whom he is going to kill. When the Red Eye trailer started before Ring Two last night, I was struck by how much the male actor resembles the guy I used as my reaper character.

Just when my friend next to me also noted the actors' similarities, the Red Eye trailer took its evil turn, making the guy's eye go red, etc. The title card "one of its passengers may not arrive alive" convinced me that this, too, was a grim reaper film that beat me to the punch.

When I got home and looked it up on imdb, I found that there's no supernatural elements in Red Eye- it's about a mobster/terrorist or something. I breathed a sigh of relief, then looked at Cillian Murphy's filmography and found that he was in a 1999 short film called "At Death's Door." I watched it on Ifilm and find that in it he plays... a grim reaper! Doh!

You're goddamn right it is. Just proves to show that Cillian Murphy is one of the best up and coming actors currently working in the business.

Hopefully DreamWorks will give Craven a lot more freedom than Dimension did with Cursed. I'm expecting a gritty R rated thriller from Craven this time around, not a watered down PG-13 piece of shit (like, uh, Cursed).

Craven needs a hit badly. After Scream 3, Music of My Heart, and Cursed; it seems to me that the guy just doesn't have the magic anymore. Let's hope that this flick recaptures his original magic.

I just saw the flick tonight at a screening and autograph session with Wes Craven. The movie was great. Rachel McAdams gives a great performance and Cillian Murphy is extremely great as the bad guy. Craven did a great job creating tension within the confines of the airplane and the two leads make the material compelling. It was a great rollercoaster ride and definitely worth seeing.

Worst trailer ever. I was rolling my eyes when it "switched" to a horror film - give me a break.

Yeah, I loved the trailer too. They should have made the whole thing like the first half though, and then pulled a bait and switch. Not because I think it would do better, but just because I want to see someone ballsy enough to actually try it.

trailer sucks. why give away the fact they both make it off the plane alive? Totally loses all dramatic tension for the plane scenes

I first thought this was another Wes Craven horror movie, but when I saw clips of the action and people using rocket launchers, I knew it couldn't be. Don't know if Craven has action thriller in him, but we'll see.

Murphy seems to be sort of reprising his Scarecrow from Batman Begins.

The theatrical trailer absolutely does not give this information.

But thanks for posting it in this thread untagged!

The first trailer didn't give that info, but the second one did...I was disappointed that they gave away so much in the full trailer as well.

That said, if the trailer has you interested at all, I'd say you should check it out. Wes really made a strong thriller here. It's a crowd pleaser through and through, probably his best film since Scream. And yes Scott...it was late, used GREAT a few dozen times...i'll try to be more eloquent in the future.

Me & WES

The trailer looked so-so. It looks mildly interesting but not enough to get me in the theater for it. Netflix.

That's dumb. How is it a horror film? Oh right, Wes Craven directed it....So that actually makes it a horror film?

It's a suspense/thriller. Big difference from a horror film. You might as well say Phonebooth is a horror film.

As for the trailer, I loved it.

I was a showing of this tonight a and liked it quite a bit. Got a little silly at the end but otherwise pretty good.

I hate Craven,

I loved RED EYE.

It's a pop thriller - so logic and reality nazis need not apply.

This is simply a clean, well-done, tension-packed thriller that knows to keep itself to the point (80 minutes), and casts two actors who have great things ahead of them.

If you can give youself over to the whoppers contained in the script, you'll love it.
