Good for Jamie Foxx
He deserved it, what a great movie and great performance. After the Academy snubbed Bill Murray last year, I was happy to see Jamie win it this time. Even in Ali, he was amazing.
Let's hope he doesn't go to crap now... |

Dude, Booty Call was the shit. That crap was funny.
But he is starring in the upcoming movie Stealth, which looks to suck. I'm sure he'll do some quality stuff in the future though. |
So very true... People tend to forget he made THREE movies last year. It wasn't all rosy for him. And to follow up this Oscar win with STEALTH? Ouch. Not since Michael Caine... |

Personally, I was convinced of Jamie Foxx's talent after seeing
Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story. |
I'm sorry but I think Fox is so overrated I just want to vomit at all of the praise for this guy. I know it's not trendy right now & it's "PC" to be in love with this guy, but anyone, I mean ANYONE who was playing that role in Ray was going to win the Oscar, it's just the way the industy is nowadays.
Fox is a flavor of the month, if he is still getting praise 10 years from now then I take that back. Yeah, he was good in Ray, absolutely, but not the best performance of the year & Collateral was one of the most overrated performances I've ever seen, countless actors could have played that role. |
I thought he deserved the win, time will tell as to see how well his movies hold up in a few years.

I thought Foxx's speech was wonderful and I think he definitely deserved to win for best actor. I also wanted Cheadle to win because I feel he is so underrated and does not get the roles he deserves. |

:p I don't particularly like characters that are real. Too much reference material on hand to tailor a performance around. It's basically doing an awesome imitation of the person. There's no originality in it. And that Ray Charles actually helped to coach Foxx, it just doesn't seem right that he won an Oscar. I don't doubt his perfomance by any means, but there wasn't anything original about it. |

Some of you guys are on crack. This silly notion that "anybody playing Ray Charles would have won the Oscar" is just preposterous. He didn't imitate Ray Charles he was Ray Charles. There's a huge difference between the two.

Now if you could just clear up what the heck this has to do with what I posted previously, that would be great. :) |

No No. You're missing a crucial point when judging a actor's role. Some actors just regurgitate lines off the script.... Others seem to somehow take on the persona of the character being played making it easy for the audience to believe that they are in fact that character. It's almost as if they "Channel" the spirit of that person or fictional character. Ray Charles was still alive while RAY was being made. So Foxx was able to "pull" from the real deal in the role. Ray taught him how to play like he does and everything else. Not every actor has that luxury. |

I could be wrong about this, but it's my understanding that after Foxx met Ray Charles and played and sang with him the one time (the footage that's an extra on the DVD) he intentionally avoided seeing him again until the film was completed. He wasn't coached because he didn't want the older Ray to influence how he played him as a young man.
|
I dunno why but I thought the best part about him winning was that he brought is daughter with him instead of some model or something like all the other actors do.
as far as the performance, there's plenty of actors out there that can get all the coaching in the world and still not be able to nail a part the way Foxx did. Who cares if he had the real ray charles helping him? The movie ain't called Ray for nothing... he did a damn fine job in the film and definately deserves it, and I also agree about Don Cheadle too I would have gone with either of them, it's a shame there can't be a tie :) |
I'm happy for Jamie Foxx......but i'm THRILLED for Morgan Freeman!

Jim Carrey was Andy Kaufman, but that didn't help him, did it? |

Will Smith WAS Muhammad Ali (what, back to that movie?).
Foxx clearly WAS Ray Charles. But I really do question ... if Ray Charles is alive today, I don't think Foxx wins the Oscar. And no, Carrey did not get nominated for MOTM. |

Not just anyone could play Ray Charles. Foxx also happens to be so talented a piano player that he could actually be Ray Charles.

I'm glad for Jamie. I think he's got the acting chops not to be just a flash in the pan. Even when you're playing a non-fictional character you still have to be able to act. That's why I couldn't totally get behind Will Smith in Ali..and Jim Carrey, sorry, I don't think he's the greatest actor either. Now overrated Oscar winner is Cuba Gooding Jr. Tell Jamie to stay 1,000 miles from any script he's even had a thought about. |
Jim Carrey was Andy Kaufman, but that didn't help him, did it? I saw Ray and I think that Foxx did a great job, I'm not upset that he won...but it is true that portraying people with disabilities is a step in the right direction for winning the Oscar. |
