I really do like a variety of movies. I will give Aviator a shot this weekend. Meant to see it sooner. But there were much better movies this year and I was surprised by the movies they chose.

They need to include movies that actually do well...
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King $377,019,252
A Beautiful Mind $170,708,996
Gladiator $187,670,866
Titanic $600,779,824
Forrest Gump $329,691,196

"The Oscars' 30.1 rating in Nielsen Media Research's 56 top markets was a slight 1 percent improvement over last year's comparable number, and the highest-rated Academy Awards in the metered markets since 2000. The rating is an estimate that nearly 33 million households were tuned in.

Wait, I just re-read your "post": did you actually see Million Dollar Baby? The one I saw was not so politically correct and certainly a far better film than Passion of the Christ!

You spout nonsense!

The most ironic one is that MDB will probably outgross Van Helsing

Holywood is so PC, only leting gud moviez win!

But is he serious in thinking Van Helsing made money and MDB didn't? Van Helsing cost $210 million to make and market and made $120 million. MDB cost $30 million and has made 64 million, with probably another 30-50 yet to go.

If I were an investor, I would be happier with a $34 million+ profit than being $90 million in the hole. But those are just my crazy PC feelings.

The funny thing is...I actually own 3/5 of those movies because they were enjoyable. Titanic and Forest Gump I do not have, but they are all much better than MDB. Please let me know when MDB makes more than Van Helsing because it is slowing down in sales. 7,000,000 this past week is great! It is well on its way past the $100,000,000 mark!!! We just need to give it another year considering the amount of movies that are on the horrizon. With movies like Star Wars III, Sin City, Fantasic 4, War of the Worlds, and Harry Potter 4 this year (all but one coming out before the end of summer) I will be so surprised if those do not do extremely well, but fall short of academy awards. They will all be robbed.

HA! Constantine has been out 2 weeks and has almost surpassed MDB with it's 11 weeks. Silly America! Sideways has 64,000,000 in 18 weeks so that is showing something (bad!!). Last, but NOT least, is Finding Neverland. 48,000,000 in 16 weeks. Maybe Johnny Depp needs to stay a pirate! Aviator is the only one that I believe will top $100,000,000 in a respectible amount of time.

6.4 Million people saw Finding Neverland as opposed to 58.8 million who saw Shrek 2. Common!

Funny... I like movies that I like. It's a very simple equation.

I don't fixate on how much (or little) they've made, because unless I'm getting a cut of the gross - who cares?

Well, I really appreciate having the ending of Million Dollar Baby being spoiled for me (haven't had time to go out and see it or most of the other Oscar movies other than Ray, Aviator and Finding Neverland). Can we please suspend/ban this guy? He's not contributing anything positive to the forum.

Don't ban me. This is actually fun guys. There isn't enough discussion threads and that's all I am doing. I may be alone on this subject, but it is an opinion. And the fact about the spoiler. I am sorry, but I have seen that several times on the forums with spoilers and have seen it in the news several times. I thought everyone knew. I am just stating opinions. I love dvdtalk and use it all the time. Anyways, here are some movies, and can you guys rate them according to your Opinions?

1>Shrek 2
2>Spider Man 2
3>Passion of Christ
4>Meet the Fockers
5>The Incredibles
6>Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban
7>The Bourne Supremacy
8>National Treasure

(These were movies from the top 100 of all time list on yahoo!)

9>Aviator
10>MDB
11>Ray
12>Finding Neverland
13>Shark Tale

Again, sorry for the spoiler (I'll learn from the mistake) but this is again a discussion. Like me or Hate me (probably hate me) I am trying to get people to give a lot of feedback and it's working so just roll with it. I may be alone on this thread (i am a bit surprised) but I am enjoying this!

Okay, the Van Helsing comment clinched it...

EDIT: As far as your challenge goes, I’ll bite:

1>Skipped it. Hated the first one.

2>Great flick.

3>Subject matter nonwithstanding, it looked like it was edited by a pack of hyenas.

4>Friggin awful.

5>Loved it.

6>Not really my cup of tea, but well done

7>Not bad

8>Skipped it

9>Flawed

10>Pretty damn impressive

11>Slightly overrated, but I’m a huge fan of the man himself, so I enjoyed it.

12>Okay… I guess

13>Blew

Million Dollar Baby isn't slowing down in sales, it made more this week than it did last week, and I will bet it makes even more next weekend, due to the Oscar. Guess how many weeks in a row Van Helsing made more than the week before. If you guessed zero, you win. It dropped 60% in its second week.

You can go back and edit your spoiler about the end of MDB, it's the polite thing to do. You also might want to consider that popularity and quality are not the same thing, though they do sometimes overlap.

Tay = Joe 6-pack. Simple as that. He likes what the masses like. He drinks Bud Light, eats at McDonald's, and watches The Simple Life. He may even buy full-screen, as he hates those black bars on widescreen movies. I'm cool with that, though I am a little disappointed that he cannot accept this fact himself.

Thank you. Deleted. Didn't know I could do that.

As for Joe 6-pack (no alchohol ever or never smoked). Never drank beer once. Don't eat at McDonalds (not healthy) and thanks for trying. I didn't bring up Van Helsing, you guys did.

It is interesting, in a way, to note the differences in how we think of movies that are Oscar-worthy vs. the movies we often enjoy the most.

I can't remember a year since I started watching the Oscars that my favorite movie of the year won Best Picture. It's not altogether uncommon for me to have not even seen any of the five nominees by the time the Oscars roll around (I only saw one so far this year, and it wasn't the one that won. I have to go back to Forrest Gump to find a Best Picture winner I saw prior to it winning Best Picture... and looking over the list of Best Picture winners, that would be the only Best Picture winner I saw prior to its winning Best Picture ever. That year was also the last year in which I've seen all of the five Best Picture nominees to this day), but it's very rare that I would even think about my favorite movies as Oscar contenders.

I don't know why there's that separation between what many of us like and what many of us think is worthy of Oscar consideration.

As far as I can tell, Tay is just trolling and looking for trouble and deserves some sort of suspension for his actions in this thread. It's fine to like movies that you like, but to get so hung up on them not winning Oscars is just stupid. It's all subjective, some you will agree with and others you won't. Getting your knickers in a twist over them is just unhealthy if you ask me. I'm not gonna rip Tay for liking the movies he does, but most of them did nothing for me at all. I don't care what a film makes, I care how much I liked it and how much it connected with me.

Tay, if you want an awards show that bases its awards on the opinions of the masses or box office totals, maybe you should stick with the People's Choice, Blockbuster or MTV Movie awards. You're off to a rousing start on this site when one of your first posts finishes with a declaration that Hilary Swank is really a man and then you later spoil a major plot twist in a movie that many have not seen. Maybe you should grow up a little bit and learn how to be civil around here.

I still want to know how you can claim that The Passion was historically accurate? There is about as much "evidence" that White Chicks was historically accurate.

Sorry, I looked, but to quote Willem Dafoe in "To Live and Die in L.A.," "Your taste is in your ass."

There are a handful of good titles, but it's mostly what I expected from reading your posts here: Mindless action shlock and teen titty comedies, all aimed at 15-year-old boys. Which I suspect you are.

I do not agree with your collection. And while you may be a member, you are not cool.
