That's definitely true. I remember early TV broadcasts of the movie restored that footage - just like they did with Superman I and II. It's unfortunate that over 20 years have passed since I last saw those deleted scenes in part II. Some of that stuff was really great. (However, I can't say the deleted stuff in part III was at the same level of quality. )

He did it as a favor to Reeve because he directed it.

When I was a kid I thought Superman 3 was great and watched it again when the box set came out and realized it wasn't so good

When I 1st saw 4 when I was a kid I was like this isn't as bad as everyone says it is, but almost 20 years later watching it i realized how bad it really was.

Christopher Reeve directed second-unit on SUPERMAN IV. According to articles, he knew it was going to be a disaster when Cannon Films slashed the budget during production. It's greaty disappointing to see the Reeve's Superman character end with IV.

Oh man, Superman IV could've been a lot worse. Don't believe that's possible? Check out two scenes that were deleted to actually improve it...

Wow. This is Z-movie stuff starring Christopher Reeve in a Superman costume. Absolutely horrible.

And yes - Superman actually called "time out."

Yes, I now have a strange craving for Burger King. Reminds me how after Superman II, I had a craving to smoke a Marlboro and drink a Coca-Cola.

Wow. I haven't even gone thru 4 of my UCE yet. Now I guess I don't have to. That was just very, very, very bad. Was that really the original music they would have used, or is that just something that was added by whoever uplaoded it?

Man I hope it wasn't the original music. But since it matches the slapstick tone of that scene, who knows?

Can you believe some lucky test screeners got to see this footage in the theater???

The first clip was so bad that it was good. That ice-cream truck music kicked ass!

lol@ the 2nd clip! How heroic was it of Superman to just simply move a nuclear missle away from those guys' faces!

Yeah, I sat through all 31 minutes of deleted scenes when I got the Ultimate Collection last week and I can see now why they cut out Unclear Man 1. It would've made a terrible movie even worse. I felt like I was watching outtakes from Young Frankenstein. Especially with Gene Hackman there.

They should've left in the subplot with Unclear Man 2 trying to start a nuclear war. That at least would've raised the stakes in the 3rd act.

So Doughboy, was that music the same on the DVD?

I remember being disappointed when I first heard the DVD would not contain a director's cut. Then I thought about buying this DVD and creating a fan edit with the deleted scenes.

Now I think my collection will just end with III. (And my appreciation for III just tripled!)

If you're referring to the music during the Unclear Man 1 scenes, it did sound like an ice cream truck.

I don't think you'll have much luck creating a fan edit since the FX aren't completed in any of the deleted scenes. Even the tornado and Russia scenes that've aired in the broadcast version with completed FX don't have any.

I would personally end it with II if you're buying them individually, but I guess III does have a few things going for it unlike IV which is simply an unmitigated disaster.

this movie is so fundamentally flawed at it's very core that no amount of editing or unediting will help it.

That footage is atrocious. Amazing how it came to be so bad compared to the first two.

I fully Appreciate why it took 20 years for WB to get behind another movie.

I'm now convinced the Quest for Peace is to Superman as The Holiday Special is to Star Wars.

The best anti-superman was Evil Superman from SIII, which is like Citizen Kane compared to IV.
