The one and only "I hate Star Wars" thread!
You know that other Star Wars hype thread is just brimming with positive energy! I'm just brimming with fear, and fear leads to anger, and anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering!!!! so here, post everything you hate about Star Wars!
You know what really irks me? when Obi-Wan deflects Count Dooku's force lightning in Episode II. Yet later, he somehow forgets to give Luke this handy little tidbit. It would have been great to hear: "Hey Luke, before you face down this master of absolute evil with unimaginable power who has abilities that are far beyond your reach and understanding in a battle in which you will decide the fate of the entire galaxy, by the way, you can deflect his death lightning with your lightsaber. Just so you know." |
worst. thread. ever.
j/k ;) So, really assuming this thread flies with the mods - I love Star Wars (hopefully this isn't seen as a threadcrap) the original trilogy, although I realize they aren't the best movies ever. I do loathe the new trilogy, but am hopeful for the final installment. Being a realist though, I can't see it being much better. |
I think this thread sums it all up: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=409162

thank you for starting this thread. gives us a place to express our disappointment with the prequel trilogy without being told I'm not welcome. so here's a big concern for me: I am seriously afraid that the two minutes of Darth Vader scenes toward the end of ROTS will be mishandled in the usual manner that Lucas has handled much of the last two films, putting a blight on an otherwise legendary character.

Ok, I'll add what I don't like about Star Wars.
I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. |

As for the advice to Luke, I guess the better one would be, "NEVER throw away your lightsaber just as you're about to face down this master of absolute evil with unimaginable power who has abilities that are far beyond your reach and understanding in a battle in which you will decide the fate of the entire galaxy. That whole 'I am a Jedi like my father before' me speech you've been practicing lately is fine, but like I told your daddy, 'your lightsaber is your life'. He never listened to me and look what happened. *gestures around him* I kicked his ass." :D |
I don't hate Star Wars (well the new ones I despise), I just hate the annoying fans -ptth-
|
I hate Star Wars bashers. Does that qualify? ;)
Ok, ok - I do dislike the over-use of Jar Jar in the first movie. I also disliked that Darth Maul had hardly any lines. |
I don't hate Star Wars (well the new ones I despise), I just hate the annoying fans As for this thread, about all I can add is I hate Jar-Jar and Jake Lloyd's performance. That's about it. Otherwise, I love Star Wars. |
:whofart: Some people really do need to get a life.

Mods, close this thread.
|
if we posted "I hate the Star Wars prequels" in the other threads, we would've been accused of threadcrapping, so we might as well have our own thread.
|
Wow, some people's sarcasm detectors aren't quite up to snuff. I guess the line about General Grevious wasn't enough.
Anyway, I'm tired of people who incessantly bitch about how bad Star Wars. Alright, we get it, you hate that rotten little bastard from Episode I that ruined the entire movie for you (Anakin or Jar Jar, take your pick). It's not as if someone's making you go see Episode III, and if you feel that George Lucas owes the world something, then you are perhaps in need of moving out of your parents basement, getting a real job, and growing up. |
I don't hate Star Wars, it's fans, or even eps 1 & 2. I'm a sw geek myself, and I'll be at Celebration 3 this year. Jar Jar made me cringe, but then so did the ewoks, the ugnaughts, and the dianoga in the trash compactor. Anyhow, I am tired of people who incessantly bitch about anything.
|
Other than Jar Jar and the Gungans, who I simply loathe, The prequels have been fine so far. Not the second coming of anything really, just decent little space adventure flicks. I'd put each of them on par with an average episode of Farscape, but with far far worse acting.
And in retrospect, were the originals really that good? No, we were just young. |
I liked The Empire Strikes Back. I hated all the others, including the original one. I think Lucas is a hack director who had one really brilliant idea, and since he's a great businessman, milked that idea for billions of dollars.
|
I like star wars. I don't think they are the best movies ever, but I'd rather watch any of the star wars movies for mindless entertainment than most of the other films that are shoved down my throat. I can see why some people hate the new ones. I won't defend them, but I happen to like them.
|
so, let me get this straight. If i come here and say, "Star Wars is great, I love it" is that thread crapping?
Because technically this is a thread created for crapping, so if i say something good then Im the asshole... |

Jar Jar Binks comes to mind and the shit acting from that little kid who played Anakin in Ep1. Some of changes that Lucas made for the DVD release of the original trilogy were pretty shit.
|
There is only one thing that irks me about star wars. Jar-Jar? No, he is tolerable. Jake Lloyd? Nope. Tolerable as well.
Medichlorians Just ruins the magic and mystery of the force and Jedis. The backbone of the saga. I think future releases should excise any reference to it, ala Highlander 2 and the "from another planet" BS. |

I liked the midichlorians for one reason. It should up all the bible thumping star wars fans who were always saying crap about the force being "god." :D

I think Lucas is a hack director who had one really brilliant idea, and since he's a great businessman, milked that idea for billions of dollars. - Created ILM, Skywalker Sound, LucasArts, and Pixar - Pro Tools, Avid, non-linear editing - Pioneer in digital filmmaking - Directed THX-1138, American Graffiti, Star Wars, and really directed most of ROTJ - Nominated twice for Best Director - Star Wars and American Graffiti nominated for Best Picture - Created, wrote, and produced the Indiana Jones trilogy and Willow Now how many hack directors have directed two Best Picture nominees and received two noms for Best Director? How many have created two trilogies the likes of Star Wars and Indy? I don't know of any. Maybe you're talking of Uwe Boll or Stephen Sommers, because you sure aren't talking about Lucas. So he made two films you didn't like. That hardly means he's a hack. Go here for an education on Lucas and his work. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr...ent_id=2094216 |
Wow, some people's sarcasm detectors aren't quite up to snuff. I think Luke said it best when he said..."NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" |

Thank you . . . it's always nice to find people who are willing to recognize that fact. |
I never liked "Star Wars".
Its not that i "hate" the movies, they just don't do anything for me. I tried watching the first one (not Episode 1) when the trilogy was released on VHS (before DVD the SE movies) and i couldnt get excited about any of it. I saw bits of the movies when i was younger, i like sci-fi movies, but the movies just do not do anything for me. |

That Lucas is a hack director is my opinion, but be assured that it's my informed opinion. BTW, Ron Howard has won or been nominated for all kinds of directorial awards, and I think he's a hack, too. In case you weren't aware, the awards AMPAS hands out every year mean nothing to me. |
And in retrospect, were the originals really that good? Star Wars and Empire are great films. Perfect? No! I've never seen a perfect film. If I really want to, I can nitpick even the greatest film. Return of the Jedi is not a great film. But I think it is a good to very good film, and very entertaining. Whatever the case, it beats the pants off of 90% of the crap that gets released today. I think he's a hack director. but founding ILM doesn't make one Alfred Hitchcock I never liked "Star Wars". |

is average at best... just barely competent. I've presented my evidence to back it up. End of story. But, people can believe what they want. Just don't come at me with that hack crap. ;) Maybe you'd like the resume of a true hack. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0093051/ |
actually a hack is define as "mediocre and disdained", or average and lacking respect. he excels as a producer, but when it comes to working with actors and and composing mise en scene, he's merely competent. i'm sure many producers would give their right arm to have his career, but i've never met another filmmaker that includes Lucas' directing as a major influence.
|
I hate in Star Wars when they say, "May the Force be with you." Either you GOT it or you DON'T! Saying, "May the Force be with you" to Han isn't going to give him any more Force power! -wink-
|
Boring overhyped movies.
I fell asleep in Episode 1 and that was against overly loud fat people. :) |
:yack:
|
cygnet - where has it been revealed that midichlorians have returned? Source?
Also, Lucas is far from a hack director. He invented the modern action/adventure movie which every director tries to emulate (and fails most times) to this day. |
