Any Given Sunday with Pacino & Foxx?

It was a dream come true for me back in 1999 when my two biggest interests were combined: Pacino flicks and football.

I thought this movie was pretty accurate in what displayed about the business of football.

There were some things like the eyeball coming out that were fake and would never happen in the NFL.

Is the general consenus that this was a bad movie or a masterpiece that got overlooked?

Horrible movie, I walked out of the theater not even half way through and still haven't looked back.

Josh H 02-06-05 02:28 PM

I loved it as well.

dick_grayson 02-06-05 02:30 PM

somebody needs to tell Al Pacino he doesn't need to take every role he's offered. someone needs to tell DeNiro that too

Good movie. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and think it's one of the better sports movies out there.

Libby 02-06-05 02:46 PM

I loved its intensity and wild camera angles.

PopcornTreeCt 02-06-05 03:11 PM

I liked it. I thought it was ahead of its time as Jamie Foxx's character was pretty much just like Michael Vick before Vick was in the NFL.

Tarantino 02-06-05 04:55 PM

I thought it was pretty average.

I'm a big Oliver Stone fan, but not a football fan - maybe that's why I thought this was one of his least succesful movies. (Topped only by Alexander!)

Best football movie i've seen, it had a lot of style. And not your typical football story either, about some underdog team that has a heart of gold or whatever... pffft.

Kennyx 02-07-05 12:25 AM

I loved it too.

And it has one of the best motivational speeches I've ever heard in any movie (the 'Game of Inches' speech that Pacino delivers in the locker room).

Perhaps the XFL.

It's a terrible representation of the day to day operations of an average football team.

Rivero 02-07-05 12:48 AM

The first ten minutes are good, that first game, then the movie goes downhill from then on. One of Stone's worst.

Kal-El 02-07-05 12:49 AM

I liked it.

Legolas 02-07-05 12:51 AM

Richard Roeper called it the best football movie ever made.

I liked it, but wouldn't go that far. Wasn't a fan of Oliver Stone's camera/editing style though.

Of course, it's idiotic to say it's supposed to represent your average football team, when like every fictional movie or TV show made about a profession, they'll take everything bad that's ever happened throughout the history of that profession and stick it all in one company or team or whatever.

Didn't like it much. I'm really tired of Pacino's overacting (heard he was good in Merchant, though).

AGS really needed a better costume designer. Those cheap, horrible, ugly uniforms really were distracting to me.

ShelleyLevene 02-07-05 02:12 AM

Jamie Williams a former Niner helped write the script.

The only part that did not work for me was the Ben Hur scene playing in the background when Pacino and Foxx were talking.

Really enjoyed this one, Must say I was surprised by LT's performance too.

Giantrobo 02-07-05 04:54 AM

I'm not a football fan but I liked this movie.

Yeah, LT did a great job in this one. Mediocre movie though, IMO.

bigsoos 02-07-05 08:52 AM

I loved the movie

Amel 02-07-05 09:12 AM

The only thing I remember about this movie is that I didn't like it.

raven56706 02-07-05 10:03 AM

Awesome movie.... great soundtrack and visuals

DeanoBKN 02-07-05 11:18 AM

I'm not a fan of football (I didn't even watch the Super Bowl) but I liked the film a lot.

Jray 02-07-05 12:03 PM

I love football and love Al Pacino.... but I didn't like this movie. 'Nuff said.

I sense a trend here - people that don't watch football enjoyed it. Maybe people that watch more football didn't like it? As I recall the football action was just too way-over-the-top.
