Wow, I've got to disagree with those who've seen it. I thought it was slow, boring, and pointless. An art department masturbatory fantasy, totally devoid of decent charactization or plot.

Just watched this on DVD. Was really looking forward to it, thought it looked like a cool cg Labyrinth type flick....what a waste of time. Sure, it had some cool visuals but was so devoid of plot/character/substance that I couldn't enjoy a single frame of this drivel... I mean, it was so incoherent I'm still reeling thinking this was put to film... the fact that the HENSON name was anywhere near this should have old Jim rolling in his grave. I never want to see anything with the name "Dave McKean" attatched to it ever again...

Wow, some conflicting views...I'm used to seeing contrasting reviews, but nothing so far from each other.
I rented this for tonight, so I'll be able to get in on the conversation.

Great film overall, it started to drag a bit at the transforming scene but the rest of the film was pretty much fantastic. Not sure what people are complaining about, but I suppose it just isn't their cup of tea. IMO, it's superior to Labyrinth in everyway, save for maybe David Bowie's cod piece.

While the movie looked amazing the accompanying story was lacklustre. I liked the lead for what she could do, but there wasn't much in regards to the plot. Seemed like they were trying to make a classic fantasy (along the lines of the neverendingstory) with far superior images. They succeeded in the cinematography, but middled out with the story.

Whats with all the Mirrormask hatred going on?
Its a family bedtime story. Just like Labryinth. Just like Neverending Story. Just like every other fantasy family-coming-of-age film.
It covers enough to make in endearing and keeps it paced so that the younger kids (like the 13 or 15 year olds that fall into Helena's catagory) can relate too.
I've never heard someone say that they never want to see anything related to Dave McKean again. Wow.
