Any larger pics? I can't make out what's happening other than that Bruce was way more visible in the pics.

Yeah, I don't know why those thumbs are so small either. Upon doing some research, the large pic came from an issue of LIFE (?!) magazine that had a big article on the movie. I'm sure the actual photo wasn't in a blue tint either.

I wonder why there was no mention of this on the dvd. If a new version is released I sure hope it will include some info on the scene with some nice color stills.

Here's the actual pics from the Life magazine:

They could've shot it similar to how that coach got killed. You know the one who put the Brody's kid out of the way when the shark swam by with him in his mouth? We see the shark approaching underwater with its mouth open after tipping the guys's boat. The shot is from above and the shark is swimming on it's side then we see him grab the coach and sink deeper.

That was another scene that freaked me out something rotten.

he was a coach? where'd you get that from? was he wearing a whistle or something? I always thought he was just a dude in a boat. Maybe it's from the book....

It just isn't subtle. With the big shot of the shark, everyone would freak at once. In the actual scene it is a gradual change. One peson sees it and they freak, 2-3 see her and freak, and so on. It would just totally change the dynamics of the scene. Not to mention the whole film. You don't really see the big guy to the end.

Are there any better uses of the old "zoom in, dolly out" or "Hitchcock zoom" effect? I know this has been used a hundred times or more since Hitchcock used it in Vertigo but this scene from Jaws seems to be the one that I remember as being the most effective. Others, anyone?
I've always liked the one in Goodfellas. It's a much slower version than the traditional Vertigo/Jaws speed that we see. It's the scene when Liotta and DeNiro are sitting in the restaurant near the end of the movie and Liotta thinks that DeNiro is setting him up to get whacked in Florida. It's much more subtle, but very good.

What?

You're entitled to your own opinion, but I think that's just plain wacky!
