"Hollywood people tend to think that because one is successful in one aspect of entertainment they can bring them into this particular world and make a success out of them."
And there's about a hundred years worth of proof that Hollywood is right. |
imagine if a white guy had said that
I'm not saying jackson's comment was related to race, but if this came form a white guy it would have been twisted to be that way |

Even though it seems that he's being a hypocrite, I do agree with him.
It seems like almost every film has a role played by someone in the music industry (and not just rappers). Many times it just seems like a marketing ploy to get more people to see the film - which I think is a shame since most of the time it takes away from the film because of this unnecessary bad performance. I know if I were a trained actor looking for work - I'd be pissed off that people with absolute no acting experience are taking their jobs simply because they're famous. I wonder how many great young actors we didn't get to see perform because the role went to a one hit wonder. |

"Great young actors" aren't losing roles to rappers and pop stars because the roles they're getting are nothing more than gimmicks, glorified cameos, and vehicles to tie-in to their popularity among teenagers. Like you said a marketing ploy. |

Frank Sinatra Dean Martin Sammy Davis Jr. Funny that you mention Frank, Sammy, and Dino. I would argue that those those guys actually have a lot in common with rappers, in that they're less musicians and more entertainers. So they're going to have some personal charm and charisma that's going to show up on the screen even if they aren't particularly good actors. Whereas a musician, a real musician would probably make a shitty actor. |

Hopefully Sheridan can work wonders with 50 Cent in improving his acting skills, as he is the most bland speaker I have ever heard.
When he talks (say on awards shows) I have to cut the noise out of everything else and listen carefully as he mumbles and talk with a weird sound in his voice. I can't even explain it...I don't know if it is the numerous bullets he has been shot with or what... |
I wonder what Jon Bon Jovi would have to say on the matter.

Unless the scriopt was something that screamed Oscar its obvious Jim Sheridan is trying for a little mainstream (hopefully) success to offshoot into other oppurtunities, which is a nicer way of saying its a money run and its something Jackson should've called him on. I love Jackson in almost anything he does but he comes off as a bit of a jealous whiny bitch to me. Who is he to hold rappers up to a higher standard? Can we comb through all his films and nitpick every bad actor in all of them and complain why he worked with such obvious no talents, why try to cockblock someone's dream, he knows acting is the cushiest job EVER and talent isnt always required to be a star so why wouldnt a singer try and get in on that?

First, not all of those roles are cameos and such - and secondly, even if they are bit roles (not cameos) - ANY role a young actor can get is more on screen experience and will add to his/her resume. |
Sam should be thankful that he's been able to milk the angry black man roles since Coming to America. -ohbfrank-
