Since 2004 is wrapping too soon, I thought about on some of the good movies I have left to see. December was a hectic month for me (I was working a ton of hours and drunk most of the time), as I usually see atleast two movies if not more a month-I didn't see any in December. So, I got some catching up to do, but living here in Omaha/Papillion, NE, sometimes we don't always get to see limited release films. Here's some of the ones I really wanted to see (and hopefully will prior to their dvd release:

The Machinist: I've always been a huge Bale fan and supported him to get Batman prior to WB actually announcing it, so this film had me intrigued from the get go. I haven't seen the directors prior films, but heard good things about it, and like it or not, the writer is a hot commodity right now, with last year's TCM remake and soon-to-be Amittyville Horror remake. The story intrigues me more about this, but how can you not see one a Hollywood's most dramtic physical change for a movie (in Bale losing 65 lbs.)?

Primer: This film has been on some Best of lists for 2004 and I love ultra-low budget films, since their story has to be the attraction instead of anything else. I'm really in the mood for some heady scifi-I had my feel of whiz-bang FX scifi-and like I said I like to support these indie filmmakers who are all about ideas instead of $.

Others I want to see (probably in Jan 2005):

-Avaitor (which is now out nationally & I will see it Friday)

Ones to look forward to seeing in 2005:
-Haute Tension
-Undead
-Tale of Two Sisters
-I'm sure there'll be more...

Mostly, the movies that I suppose are considered more "indie" in their releases.

-Hotel Rwanda
-Sideways
-Million Dollar Baby
-House of Flying Daggers

You see my point. I live in a region where the closet theater (one that shows more than one movie at any given time) is about 40 minutes away. And the three theaters in that area aren't ones that carry the "smaller" films.

So, as such, I'm usually screwed when it comes to seeing the smaller films.

Lemony Snicket's and Sideways are the only 2 that come to mind right now. I have the exact opposite problem of the other posters here. Living in NYC, we get everything so its hard to get to everything. Also, the movies are so much here and matinees on the weekend are the same price as evening movies.

I am starting to wait for the DVD releases unless the movie is something I really want to see.

I waited and waited and waited for Door in the Floor to open here, and it never did (even though one theatre had the upcoming poster). I therefore have the DVD on its way.

Also wanted to see Stander, which only played for one special screening. (Again, DVD on its way.) Missed Bright Young Things short run, too, and will have to catch The Motorcycle Diaries on DVD. And I really wanted to see Walk on Water and A Tale of Two Sisters at the Hawaii International Film Festival, but the schedule didn't work out. And of course, my #1 must-see at the festival, Nathalie was canceled.

Those which are yet to open, but are hopefully coming, include The Machinist, The Sea Inside (love Bardem!), The Woodsman, Bad Education (though I'll probably order the R2 DVD).

A Very Long Engagement just opened but may not get to it until next year.

Several, all released this past month in either limited or wide release. The studios have gotten a bit stupid with their yearly plan of deluging the moviegoing market, dumping so many movies at once so they will get Oscar consideration as well as be fresh in the voters' minds. We always seem to get this massive lull in good movie releases after the July 4th weekend passes....a few sneak in here and there but the numbers pale in comparison.

the one movie I did want to see but was too late, it had a very short theatrical life, despite getting some pretty decent reviews was Enduring Love.
