Natalie Portman?

Even if she was placed for Closer or Garden State, it would be supporting.

What I want to win:

Picture: Dogville

Actor: Javier Bardem (The Sea Inside)

Actress: Nicole Kidman (Dogville not Birth)

Supporting Actor: Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby)

Supporting Actress: Patricia Clarkson (Dogville)

Director: Martin Scorsese (The Aviator : excellent movie and reading about how he meticulously goes about directing...he deserves it)

Screenplay (Adapted) : Sideways

Screenplay (Original) : Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Of course, I know three of my picks won't happen unless Hell freezes over. Can you pick which ones?

Yow. Out of all the movies mentioned so far, the only one I've seen is The Passion of the Christ. I need to see more!

PICTURE: "Sideways"
ACTOR: Jamie Foxx ("Ray")
ACTRESS: Annette Bening ("Being Julia")
SUPP. ACTOR: Thomas Haden Church ("Sideways")
SUPP. ACTRESS: Virginia Madsen ("Sideways")
DIRECTION: Mel Gibson ("The Passion of the Christ")
SCREENPLAY (Adapted): "Sideways"

* This is preliminary, since I still haven't seen about a dozen or so Oscar contenders, including "The Aviator." So, I'm sure some of these picks will change.

It's great seeing Virginia Madsen being mentioned for a freakin' Oscar! This chick has been a TV and B-movie actress for my entire lifetime, though I've loved her in many of those TV and B-movies. Nice to see that she finally hit on something.

When he was on Oprah, I just wanted to go through the screen and kick his overinflated ego. I when they were talkin' about Ray and then showed a clip of him as Wanda on In Living Color...

This guy cannot walk in Jim Carrey's shoes.

And those stupid women in the audience applauded like he was GOD (although they do that often...I watch with my mom sometimes )

and Oprah, Oprah, Oprah...."GO SEE THIS MOVIIIIIEEE!"

Could you elaborate on the "cannot walk in Jim Carrey's shoes" line? Foxx put in a performance in Ray that was as good if not better than Carrey's best. I like Jim Carrey as much as the next guy but Foxx's performance was incredible.

Did I say anything specific about Foxx in Ray? No.

I thought he was okay. I was talking about his ego and how he seems to think he is in the big leagues now.

How can I put it any clearer? Foxx's acting ability can't hold a candle to Carrey's.

Carrey was incredible in all of his comedies (however childish they may be), shined in The Truman Show, went berserk in Man On The Moon, went subtle in The Majestic, back to comedy hijinks in Bruce Almighty, and then downbeat in ESOTSM.

Carrey's a genius. Just because people don't go to his dramatic efforts doesn't mean a damn thing.

What's all this talk of Jamie Foxx as Best Supporting Actor? He was the lead in Ray, he was the lead in Collateral, and he sure as hell ain't getting a nomination for Breakin' All the Rules (plus he was the lead there).

My dark horse pick is Peter O'Toole for Troy, just because of the Lifetime Achievment Award to-do the other year.

JasonF,

The studio is pulling for him in Supporting for Collateral (think of it as a Training Day type of thing)

If he does get nominated for that, I will seriously be sick to my stomach. If he can get nominated for a supporting role as a lead and Ethan Hawke can too...what the hell happened with Scarlett Johansson as Supporting in LIT?
