MSNBC's 10 Worst Films of the Year
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6739542/
1. The Chronicles of Riddick
2. Catwoman
3. The Stepford Wives
4. The Whole Ten Yards
5. Resident Evil: Apocalypse
6. Paparazzi
7. Taxi
8. Surviving Christmas
9. Envy
10. Christmas with the Kranks
I saw 1, 2 and 5 and avoided the rest like the plague. Of the films I saw this year, Riddick was hands down the worst. It was, in a word, Riddick-ulous. (Sorry.) I did find it hilarious in the same way I found Judge Dredd to be comedy gold, however, so it's got that going for it.

From the list, I only saw Riddick and thought it had its moments...and was mostly fun...stupid villains though.
I can't imagine it being worse that Catwoman, which I have avoided thus far.

AvP was bad, but wasn't horrible for what it was trying to be. It was just completely unengaging in most aspects. Watered down gore/horror, lifeless acting, bland characters, uninspired action pieces and storyline, etc.
For me, Riddick was a complete cluster f---. The main problem I had was they reached too far and left the audience behind. I'm not sure if they expected the audience to have read all the comics, seen the knockoff anime and played the video games before watching the movie, or if they just didn't give a shit what the audience thought. Pitch Black was a simple, lightly sci-fi based horror survival flick. CoR is more like a cross between Bourne Identity and prequel (aka crappy) Star Wars.
But I still don't think it was the worst movie of the year.

I thought Riddick and AvP were two of the worst movies I've seen this year, but I have to admit, even those two were surpassed by Garfield in my opinion. But overall, no complaints with that list.

How did Van Helsing NOT make this list?
I liked Riddick, for what it was, a good sci fi action film. no way is it the worst of the year. and I love AvP, down with the AvP haters!! booo hiss.

Sorry, but I enjoyed Riddick. Otherwise, I can agree with that list. Stepford I'd probably leave off the list as it was just...lame, but not as awful as many of those others. Van Helsing surely deserved a spot on there.

Yeah, the list is arguable at best.
I also saw Stepford Wives with much hope of it being good. I get the feeling I would have enjoyed it much better (and purchased it on DVD) if it had actually contained the ORIGINAL ending. The version that got released pandered to a test market audience who felt the ending was too much of a downer and you can tell where they stop going in the original direction they were going and suddenly tack on a whole new ending, which completely disregarded the build up to the point where the changes started to take place. The movie SUCKED ASS.
