Not when I saw him talking about it!

I think The Rock is great, a natural Arnold, such charisma and presence. He probably gets more crap than he deserves because of the wrestling background. On top of that, he comes off as a really cool guy in interviews.

Oh I think he's great too. I've been waiting for him to do a pure R rated action flick, though apparently he's not the star in this film. I've read he actually becomes the villian of the piece. Whatever the case, Rock is a good action star and I hope he gets himself into some classic action films like Arnold did back in the day.

Seems like a definite rental at this point.

Doom Comic-Con panel coverage:
http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=20755

Confirmed in the movie: MARS! IMPS! HELLKNIGHT! THE BARON! PINKY DEMONS! GORE!

flashburn 07-18-05 06:05 AM

Actually sounds pretty cool.

Joe Molotov 07-18-05 10:16 AM

-They recreated sets directly from the game, like corridors and labs and even made the computer screens in the movie have the same style as what's on the computer screens in the game.

-Lorenzo on the plot: He wouldn't go into it much but he did say, "A team on Mars chasing real evil, bad things."
Okay, now that's more like it. I'm not going to get excited about it until I actually see some footage, but at least now it sounds like it's going to be a real Doom movie.

No Bruce Campbell = no sale.

fumanstan 07-18-05 12:45 PM

Sounds pretty neat. I'm not so sure about that FPS stuff in the movie, but i'm glad that they're staying more true to the games then was originally rumored. I was a little unclear but... the movie is rated R then?

Goat3001 07-18-05 03:07 PM

I was expecting this to be like Resident Evil. Nothing special, just some fun horror/action. If its like that then I'll be a happy customer. But I'll still be waiting for the DVD.

I was glancing at the new issue of Fangoria, and The Rock was quoted saying that one of the things that drew him to Doom was that it was going to be so unabashedly R-rated.

Dr. DVD 07-18-05 04:27 PM

Starting to show promise, but not that much. I will say that I am disappointed Rock isn't the main start, as Karl Urban isn't that charismatic, even when he was the main rival of Jason Bourne.

Guess I better start playing Doom 3 more often.

Interview with Karl Urban regarding Doom:
http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=20806

BJacks 07-24-05 12:57 PM

I've interviewed both Karl Urban and id CEO Todd Hollenshead about the film, and speaking to them has made me a lot more hopeful about the project. Urban's really into it, and Todd made a great point during our discussion: Doom is id's crown jewel. They've made a zillion dollars off it. They don't NEED to make a movie out of it, and a bad one is the last one in the world that they want. So they have a LOT resting on the film's success, and they're doing everything possible to make sure it's the best thing it can be.

Makes sense to me.

jaeufraser 07-24-05 02:15 PM

Based on the interview, and the desciprtions of the clips at the comic con I believe it was, I can say I'm officially looking forward to this movie now. Every worry most people had is pretty much gone. This will be a faithful adaptation of the game, save for some questions on hell.

So yeah...I'm really looking for it now.

Doom Trailer: http://media.filmforce.ign.com/media...04/vids_1.html

Doesn't look particularly interesting there.

thelwig14 07-26-05 10:58 PM

For some reason the movie kind of looks cheap to me (the colors are too bright and blue). Though, the lack of cg will be a breath of fresh air and I think it gives it a chance to be a classic.

Troy Stiffler 07-27-05 10:08 AM

Hmmm. Looks OK. Reminds me of Resident Evil ... ... ...

Groucho 07-27-05 10:16 AM

Hard to judge from just that teaser, but it looks like it could be pretty good.

Fincher Fan 07-27-05 10:25 AM

It's not going to set the world alight but I think it has the makings of a pretty fun flick and that's about all you can expect from this sort of movie. Looking forward to seeing it (finally).

Now where's that Duke Nukem movie?

I hear it's coming out to coincide with the release of Duke Nukem Forever. ;)

Alright! I can't wait for 1997!

Dr. DVD 07-28-05 08:08 AM

Trailer looked okay, not much to see really. Liked how they kept the whole flashlight view from Doom 3 though.

clemente 10-01-05 09:10 PM

And back to the forefront. Anyway, I've seen a few TV spots now for the movie and it looks like they did one thing right, its rated R.

Score one for not pandering to the kiddies (kinda weird to say about a movie based on a video game)
