War of the Worlds Trailer Discussion

Trailer will be up Friday morning.

Rivero 12-10-04 01:46 AM

They're really whipping this thing together fast. Doesn't seem right that peter Jackson's King Kong doesn't come out till NEXT Christmas and this movie comes out in the summer when it's been in production for much less time.

SomeVoices 12-10-04 02:10 AM

The trailer's up. Doesn't show much, but explosions off in the distance look pretty cool.

FinkPish 12-10-04 02:10 AM

Cool! Great teaser. I wonder if the neighborhood footage is from the film or shot for this only.

Jackskeleton 12-10-04 02:29 AM

cool teaser. Looks like ID4 part 2. I expect similiar story line with Dakota Fanning(whatever) and Cruise.

Kal-El 12-10-04 02:36 AM

Now that was a a great teaser.

NitroJMS 12-10-04 02:50 AM

Ok trailer.

I thought this was going to be a period piece that was set in Victorian England. That kind of disappointed me.

Jackskeleton 12-10-04 03:23 AM

"they're already here" makes me wonder what that exactly means...

Hmmmmmmmmmm

Duder 12-10-04 03:37 AM

While I was disappointed to learn that it wouldn't be period, if Spielberg really pushes this and makes it scary (and not just ID4 part 2), I think it could be very good. Just as long as Cruise doesn't flash his killer smile at approaching alien tripods and say, "You're gonna have to catch me!" :p

MasterofDVD 12-10-04 04:20 AM

Was hoping for more but it'll do for now.

Third Baseman 12-10-04 07:58 AM

Nice.

Dr. DVD 12-10-04 08:03 AM

I am wondering if this will be FX heavy since they are still in production and post production on stuff like this tends to take a while to perfect. Seems like Spielberg and Co. are really pushing by shooting for summer.

mookyman 12-10-04 09:12 AM

This is great, I just did a full night of extras work on the film in Athens, and now I get to see the teaser. I'm thrilled - the look of the suburban footage reminds me of E.T. and Poltergeist. I sent a long version of what I saw on-set to AICN, hopefully they'll put it up soon. But I really think WotW is going to be huge.

Artman 12-10-04 10:02 AM

Good teaser. Was the narration a passage from the book? Except for the mention of the 21st century it sounds similar...

Of course, direct-download links ASAP would be awesome! :)

PopcornTreeCt 12-10-04 10:46 AM

Interesting, will this be the first time Spielberg portrays aliens in a negative light? I guess we will see.

Big Worms 12-10-04 11:23 AM

Good teaser, and teaser it is. Never heard of this movie until now, but now I want to see it.

FinkPish 12-10-04 12:03 PM

Its too bad Orson Welles isn't around anymore; that would be a cool cameo voice to have in this movie.

That was quick. It seems like just a few months ago they announced they were going to make it.

Thats the other "War of the Worlds" movie coming out.

Smaller budget and the Speilberg movie, but it sounds like its being very faithful to the book.

Yes -- and they even put Wells' name in the teaser credits: "Based on the Novel by H.G. Wells".

Yeah, that was the opening of the book, more or less.

It should be intresting to see how they end the movie. In this day and age of CRASH! BOOM! WHAM! explosive endings, having the invading aliens all drop dead of the common cold will seem a bit . . . mellow? Sedate? Not very CRASH BOOM WHAM at all.

Or an Apple computer.

darqleo 12-10-04 07:16 PM

Chip718 12-10-04 07:36 PM

I wonder how they are going to handle things blowing up in this? I doubt the are going to have scenes like ID4s Empire State Building or White House explosions in post 911 era.
