This definitely looks dark and twisted. Am I the only one that thinks the poster looks like Alex from A Clockwork Orange?

I'd like to see Johnny Depp direct a movie about Tim Burton directing a movie starring Johnny Depp, in which Johnny is directing a film about Danny Elfman, who is composing the music for a new Tim Burton film starring Johnny Depp.....playing Danny Elfman.

I don't care what anyone says; I've seen the teaser a good 20 or so times now and am absolutely stoked for this film.

Yeah count me in. Burton is at his best with eccentric, odd characters in strange, built on set environments. It's when he tries to do down to earth, normal folks he gets off track. This looks great. Plus, always had a soft spot for the story. And then, in the fall, we get another Tim Burton movie. Color me happy.

No need to apologize FinkPish. I encourage you to also make one of the Oompa Loompa rocking out on the keyboard. I think the trailer was fantastic. I'll have that damn song in my head for the rest of my life as well as the line "Chewing gum is really gross, chewing gum I hate the most."

Took me a second to stop comparing it to the original and look at it on it's own. Now I'm ready for it. Bring on the Wonka!

I don't like it but I'll still go see it.
It looks like one big acid trip. And the song gives me the creeps.

I'm looking forward to the movie, but that's a pretty crappy trailer.

Im surprised by how much love the trailer is getting...I wasnt all that impressed, but it was just a teaser and still looking forward to it. It just seems like the type of remake that usually gets trashed here.

I don't think Stew was referring to the status of the book itself, but rather the fact that it's fairly common knowledge that the movie is based on a book.

I don't think I've ever hated a song so much so quickly. Still not sure about the movie, but I'll definitely check it out eventually.

I feel rather stupid then. Up until this thread, I never knew it was based on a book.

I just got to wonder if those who say it looks too much like the original or that Burton is lifting too much from the original have actually seen the original film recently? My kids watch it all the time and I've seen it so many times and almost nothing (with the exception of the all-white TV room) looked anything like the original film in my opinion.

The more I see the preview the more I want to see the movie. FWIW, any version of this movie can be interpreted as either a cute little kiddie flick, or a fun sadistic romp.

I think status is very relevant to 'common knowledge' although it has nothing to do with quality. As far as childrens books are concerned, it has been very popular, but no where close to something like Harry Potter. And, although www.roalddahlfans.com says in the FAQ that his "works" have been translated into 34 languages, I can only find versions in Norwegian, Spanish, Russian and French!! Not only is there the 'not everyone grew up in an America' normal crap, but I think it greatly reflects the books own popularity in Britain and America.

Again, for a childrens book it is very popular, but to reply with such a demeaning response due to your "shock at this persons ignorance" is insane and demonstrates Stew's ignorance on the book influence and true popularity.

It looks like Johnny's playing Willy as a slightly feminine weirdo. Is this how he's described in the book? Just curious. I only know the Gene Wilder version, so I was wondering if Tim just let Johnny go for it and create a whole new Wonka or if he's going more by the book description. I know Johnny likes to add his own input for characters, and he's really come up with some wacked out ones so this should be interesting.
