He sorta did in The Deer Hunter. What's your point?

Yeah he had a similar appearance in The Deer Hunter. Check out Mary Shelley's Frankenstein for Robert DeNiro's "never looked like this".

Not that similiar. My point is that the look above is sort of odd for DeNiro - its casual, yet he's never looked like that as far as a character he's played. In Deer Hunter, he had a bit of a goatee.

I've seen some interviews of how he looks in between shows, he tends to grow a beard and let his hair grow out until he has to cut it for his next role. Maybe looking exactly the same for 4 months while he is shooting makes him want to let it go for a while.

I thought it was good, though the complaints I've heard are that it is too slow. The cinematography is amazing.

He's never looked like "that" in a movie because "that" is a picture from an Academy Awards presentation...not a movie.

This thread has no point, and never will....trust me.

Wrong again.

From the wedding scene in "The Deer Hunter," in which De Niro has virtually identical facial hair (he doesn't have a full beard that connects with the sideburns in either shot) and he is even wearing a black tux with a bow tie:

De Niro is officially the greatest actor ever. He can star in so many movies and not look like his reality self at all.

Can he really be considered the greatest actor ever if he's basically sleep-walking through roles the last 12 or 13 years.

I find him to be a good actor, just overrated.
His range is limited (certainly not as wide as some other actors I prefer) and is basically playing himself most of the time.
