Questions
01: How did it come about for Martin Scorsese to work with DiCaprio so exclusively? Who approached who?
02: I can't remember - but didn't DiCaprio get into a little trouble with drugs around the time of Woody Allen's Celebrity (1998) came out?

He could have legitmately been nominated for 2 acting awards this past season. He only does the choicest works, Sure, he could do a 'blockbuster'. Do you say someone is a mega superstar, just because they landed in a vehicle, that most know is going to do well?
Does anyone really think that Spider Man would have been a clunker if Tobey Mcguire was not in the movie?

Yes, different movies different context, but I see the same performance in every one of those films, he just plays himself put into the setting.
Someone here said he is better than Depp, that is INSANE & a good comparison for our debate. Look at Depp, go from Fear & Loathing toDonnie Brasco to Ed Wood to Pirates of the Carribean to Chocalate to Benny & Joon I mean, holy crap, that is some acting range IMO the maybe the single best actor of our times. He completely transforms himself into that character, I see Ed Wood & I don't see Depp, I see Jack Sparrow & I don't see Johnny Depp. I look at Leo in every single moviei I see, & he gives the same performance with the same lack of range, he is just Leo Di Caprio in everything. I think Rogue 588 knows what I mean, maybe he can explain it better.

I have the same exact take on Leo. I can't pinpoint what it is but I get lost in a good performance like many other people do, but with Leo that never ever happens. I don't know if it's his accents, or his facial expressions or what, but I always see Leo trying to act instead of the character he is playing.
So you can guess which option I voted for.

DiCaprio had much success prior to Scorsese and prior to Titanic. Titanic made him an international moviestar; Scorsese made him a serious leading man.
Prior to both, I'd say DiCaprio was a rising young star whose success was based on his own acting merits. Titanic almost broke him (he admitted to saying that he almost quit acting because of the major hoopola following) - and would have broke almost anybody that young (most young stars succumb to the pressures of their craft by resorting to alcohol and/or drugs to cope). Its to DiCaprio's credit that he survived.
I don't know who approached who in regards to Scorsese/DiCaprio, but either way, both benefitted from the union. DiCaprio learned a lot from the veteran director; Scorsese appealed to the younger generation through his new protégé.

It's alittle easier if you win more than once. Do you consider Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Marlon Brando, all multi-Oscar winners, to be good actors?
