An Alien can be taken out with a simple burst of bullets but the sheer numbers would eventually overwhelm us. The army might be able to clear out a few cities but they couldn't be everywhere at once. The cities not being cleared would just produce a huge ocean of aliens to eat everyone.
Our only hope would be to isolate and kill every alien in the initial starting breed but I don't think we'd get our shit together fast enough.

how in the world can the Borg be one of the highest??? they are only the coolest dudes in all of Star Trek!!!11 how come the aliens from independence day have a better rating??? what the hecka is up with thaT? were people drunk when they submitted their votes?

Right now the Borg have 9 votes and the ID4 aliens have 4 so unless there was a windfall of voting in the last hour or so 
Personally I found the whole "put them to sleep" aspect very anti-climatic and it took a lot away from the "scariness" of the borg, but that's JMO.
Regarding the love for the Alien creatures I agree they are the coolest design but I still think the Shadows would have them for lunch w/ us as the dessert

Because they are the most human-like. There would be a whole politically correct movement of people saying "Don't attack them! They're just like us! They want to live too!" while they are wiping us out.
