Thoughts on Moulin Rouge (2001)?

And, oh yes, I forgot: completely overrated.
Nothing to do with the hype or overloaded expectations: I saw this film opening night, and felt the same exact way.
But I guess it's a word you're only allowed to use if you're talking about a movie that everyone is supposed to despise...

Major bump.
I just tried sitting through "MR" for the second only time ever. I saw it for the first time via Netflix many years ago and just didn't get it's praise. So I decided to rent it again now on Blu Ray and well, quite frankly, my opinion hasn't changed. In short, I kind of hate this film. Not being a fan of musicals in the first place, I felt "MR" is a complete mess. The pacing and over the top direction and production made it impossible for me to enjoy. It's just "too much".

I may have posted in this thread before, but I decidely hate this movie. Not just a measure of hate, but full-blown, intense hatred.
I've never even tried to understand the love, I just accept that I dislike it intensely although it's a critical darling. It's one of two or three movies I ever considered walking out on. In fact, if my row hadn't been blocked, I would have.
That rendition of "Like a Virgin" haunts me til this day.

This movie ranks as the worst Best Picture nominee I've ever seen.
And makes Glee almost tolerable by comparison. Almost.

Re: Thoughts on Moulin Rouge (2001)?
Do you really want my thoughts?
The only reason I didn't walk out is because there was a fairly huge woman at the end of my row. A few times I had the urge to use her rolls of fat as a step ladder and run out anyway.
I think the low-point for me was Broadbent's version of "Like a Virgin"
I truly hated this movie from opening to ending credits. I'm surprised at how many people got sucked in to this one, but dislike Chicago. Go figure.
