That is because Disney does the marketing & distribution. Not Pixar.

Possibly true, but I think brand identification plays a much larger role in these movies than anything else. It's a Disney movie...let's watch it. That was, quite honestly, the best thing in terms of marketing Disney had going for them. Now, that has faded a little and the Pixar logo I believe has more weight in selling their movies than Disney does. of course, Disney's hand in marketing and selling is also important, but the simple brand identification is of vast importance. Cars will open huge, regardless if it's the worst movie ever made. Of course, if it does blow, the Pixar name itself will be hurt somewhat. Had Iron Giant just sported a Disney logo 5 years ago, it would've made more money, even with the same campaign. IMO.

Granted, sometimes I wish it weren't so simple, but brand name, movie stars and money shots are quite honestly the biggest selling points of movies these days. Advertising is more about pandering to the masses in general, rather than making effective ways to tell people what the movie is about. If, for example, the Hulk movie had been marketed in a way more accurate to what the movie was, I doubt it would've had a 60 million dollar opening. Now, I agree Iront Giant was off in its campaign, but it was a hard sell no matter what they did.

Then I would suggest watching the movie all the way through before criticizing it. (Especially a movie that gets so much of its impact from its ending, as the Iron Giant does.)

Iron Giant.

Movies that make me cry will always win over movies that make me smile.

Both are amazing pieces of work.

Two great and highly enjoyable movies - Iron Giant gets the vote, though.

So what if it wasn't CG? CG or hand drawn is just a medium. And I believe that Iron Giant works better with hand drawn style.

And oh, the Giant is rendered on CG, as well as some other scene in the film.

I will go on record saying Iron Giant is one the best movies ever, in my opinion anyway. It definitly is in my top five of all time. Like others had said, movies that touch me usually have a huge impact on how i feel about the film and they usually stay with me for years even if i don't have a chance of rewatching them very often.

Iron Giant for me. Like others, this movie got to me and made me tear up....ok....it made me cry! Plus it's one of the few times I've actually liked Vin Deisel in a movie

tough call, but voted for Iron Giant.

BTW: Iron Giant was about 1/2 CG, the Iron Giant itself, as well as some other items, were CG.

Iron Giant. Sadly the R1 disc is one of two discs that I have found that stutter on my Toshiba 4900 DVD player. It happens at the branching. Same with Grave of the Fireflies. I'm considering picking up the R3 release of Giant since I love this movie.

The Incredibles. Sure, it was fluff, but it was smart, funny, and extremely well done fluff. Very entertaining.

I had high expectations for Iron Giant from reading this board but I, too, found it over-hyped. It was quite good, no question. I liked it, but overall it was a little bit sappy and a little too much of a kid's movie for me to truly love. That's just my opinion, I know most of you guys disagree with me.

Iron Giant is a remake of Seven Samurai.

Except there is only one ... and he is not a Samurai

and he is made of metal.

Ok .. they have nothing in common.

But I like Iron Giant better than The Incredibles.

I thought the Incredibles was great, I haven't seen Iron Giant, so I may have to watch it if it's being compared to the quality of The Incredibles.

Did not read all the replies so I'm sorry if I'm repeating some opinions.

For me it's the Iron Giant for story and emotional content.

The Incredibles for typical mindless entertainment (but I enjoyed that too!)

The Incredibles ranks as one of the few Pixar films I do like, but it's no Iron Giant. I knew next to nothing about this movie before I saw it and that ending had me blubbering like a baby. And it's pretty damn rare when a movie makes me cry. The animation was beautiful, the voice actors were good, and the story was heartful. Iron Giant all the way.
