apparently the Red Cross wasn't too pleased with the box set artwork of the original trilogy box and had Anchor Bay correct it - so the Best Buy 4 Disc version is now a collector's item.

People are actually scared by the ending? That's like being scared by the gorilla with a diving helmet in Robot Monster. The movie is only enjoyable as a campy joke.

A few years ago, a friend of mine was over at my house, and she had brought Sleepaway Camp with her. I had never seen the film before. She held up the video and told me excitedly, "You'll never believe the twist at the end!". As a joke, I replied "Why, does she turn out to be a guy?" She stared at me for a moment, then, deflated, muttered "Yes".

Yup

I've seen several pictures at various horror cons/Sleepaway Camp reunions where she makes that face.

Since we are all talking about the movie, has anyone heard of anything regarding "Return to Sleepaway Camp"? Felissa was supposed to be back on board for the film but I'm curious if it got canned.

WTF??? Shouldn't they be out collecting blood? What was on the cover that freaked them out and how did they get that kind of power over the entertainment industry?

Could Sleepaway Camp be an inspiration for The Crying Game possibly?

A red cross. After the whole ordeal all the copies later shipped to Best Buy were sans the red cross. I forget if the Red Cross got Best Buy to pull all the old copies of the box set they had left (per store)

My opinion of The Red Cross just suffered some damage. That's like McDonalds not letting people use their family name in a small business 'cause it's McDonald.

(Well maybe not aaas bad.)

I picked up the box set without the Red Cross logo at Best Buy and it still contained the 4th disc. I'm not sure if the 4th disc was limited or if you can still get it in the boxset.

I'm sure they're weeping. But like it or not, the holder of a trademark is legally obligated to vigorously defend the trademark or they risk losing it.

I guess not, but as I remember Red Cross sued Anchor Bay. They motivated that SUCH a cover on SUCH a movie affects their image and reputation. So it was a legal decision for this cover to be recalled.

Really not sure what right Red Cross had to sue Anchor Bay, considering that Johnson and Johnson holds the trademark on the symbol and the RC licenses it from them.

Are you sure you guys aren't just passing along hearsay?

It was taken down due to the Red Cross, but I'm not sure about any lawsuits against AB. I think the Red Cross just asked them to change it.

Hopefully AB had their attorneys actually look into to ownership of the trademark before they did anything. I suppose it's all academic anyway.

That lady has a very large mouth.

I saw this movie when I was probably 10 and it didn't even scare me then.

what I meant to say was that the 4 disc version with the original box art is hard to find. I thought the 4th disc WAS a Best Buy exclusive?

If you have Shudder, last year Joe Bob Briggs presented this on his show "The Last Drive-In" with Felissa Rose as a guest. It was an entertaining way to revisit the film.

I still say the ending to this movie is given way too much credit and does not redeem what is a truly terrible movie.

^I agree. One of the worst horror flicks of all time.

Re: Sleepaway Camp... Any good?

The movie is good slasher cheese. The ending is just sorta wtf. I mean there are hints throughout the film, but it’s still an awkward/weird moment. I actually kinda like the second and third films more truthfully.

Let's not even mention the superimposing of the actress' face on the body of a muscular man.

Re: Sleepaway Camp... Any good?

The reactions to the ending are kind of funny to read. I never found the ending creepy or shocking really. The hints about Angela are there all along throughout the film. It’s weird but that’s about all.
