Thanks for the link.

The bottom of this page discusses some of the cut Brando footage: http://www.supermancinema.co.uk/supe...twasshot_2.asp
And the top of this page discusses the rest: http://www.supermancinema.co.uk/supe...twasshot_3.asp

Thanks for the links, great stuff!

I'm hoping we get Donner's cut even more now!

QuiGonJosh 04-20-05 07:21 AM

I just read the "Water Under the Bridge" article at the Superman site and wow, fantastic read.

It's really sad about what could have been in Superman II, it could have been so much more and Donner's comments are 100% on the money.

And I was struck by this at the very end of the article:

Before we finish - Donner’s Superman2 footage is out there, in a vault, at Pinewood in England. Please don't let it rot!
Indeed! The footage is there, I sincerely hope WB let's Donner finally have his cut.

Meatpants 04-20-05 10:43 AM

Did anyone else find that site almost impossible to read? Yikes

QuiGonJosh 04-20-05 11:07 AM

Nah. Once you've read AICN, it's like going to "Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite" :D

BlueTights.net posted the following report on their website:

Hey guys, a bit of news today on another Super-Alumnist. We're hearing from a source close to the production that Jack Larson will be making a cameo appearance in "Superman Returns" as a bartender. Larson hails back to the "Adventures of Superman" TV series from the fifties, in which he played Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen.

Larson will be back with his fellow "Adventures" co-star Noel Niell, who's already been cast in a cameo role in Superman Returns.

RocShemp 04-20-05 05:05 PM

Cool. Too bad George Reeves is no longer with us. A cameo from him would have been sweet. :(

QuiGonJosh 04-21-05 06:01 AM

 for the cameo.

New Video Diary up!

Lame diary, but they can't all be gems.

What was on that woman's cell phone? It looked like an Alex Ross drawing but it was too dark on my screen

QuiGonJosh 04-21-05 10:05 AM

It was an animated gif. of the Alex Ross Superman changing drawing animated so it looks like he rips it open and flies off. I saw it on some message board.

Here's what the suit will likely look like...

That's funny, I have that as the "Charging" picture on my iPod :)

Great minds think alike. :)

RyoHazuki 04-22-05 12:26 AM

Doesn't look that bad.

fumanstan 04-22-05 01:11 AM

Looks alright. The S looks a bit small there. Not too sure about the additional S on the belt either. No problems with Routh's build though.

DonnachaOne 04-22-05 01:22 AM

http://img248.echo.cx/img248/6443/insidesuperman4nj.jpg

Simply super.

Terrell 04-22-05 01:32 AM

Hmm, I'm not digging it. So I guess I'll be the first spoil sport. No big deal though. Still don't like Routh as Superman, and the S is too small. I also don't care for the raise emblem.

Kal-El 04-22-05 01:35 AM

Is that Routh? Doesn't look like him. Not too crazy on the shrinking of the shield, but I'll wait for better quality pictures before I make any further judgements. Still looking good overall.

Jackskeleton 04-22-05 01:57 AM

The S is far to small. one thing that always bugged me is that with batman they make the suit look all muscle bound, but with superman they don't even try to show the muscle mass. He's the one that should be getting that treatment.

Terrell 04-22-05 02:08 AM

Well, not only is the suit bad, but his face in that picture screams "I'm not Superman."

QuiGonJosh 04-22-05 04:16 AM

Looks fine to me, but I get the feeling it's a prototype suit or something, or it's a fake. Where did that pic come from?

Jackskeleton 04-22-05 04:39 AM

USAToday... I doubt they would post a fake..

Better image...

Not only is the S waaaaay to fuck'n small, it should be Birthright sized, but the boots make him look stubby. there is way to much dead space in his chest/stomach area where the symbol should be bigger.

This suit is nothing like the Batman suits and it shouldn't be. For one thing the Superman suit doesn't look very constricting or bulky at all. Adding all those little muscles and such just looks a bit stupid for me, Superman doesn't need to try and look fit and muscle-bound.

Here's a High-Res pic:

Okay, now we're just getting really anal here Jack. ;)

This is the first pic, you haven't seen it motion, you haven't seen him fly, etc. What makes the suit work is the performance. I mean the guy's wearin blue suit, red underwear, and a cape. The performance brings it to life and makes you believe. I mean look at the screen-test of Reeve, he looked pretty damn goofy, but once he started acting, he sold it, I think Routh can do the same. Plus I just think the suit looks good.

Jackskeleton 04-22-05 05:04 AM

Motion or not, You can't tell me that if there's nipples on a bat suit, that Motion will make it any better. The S is waaaaaaaaay to small. It's not being anal, it's being observant. There is far to much free space there on the suit where a red symbol should be. The tip of the insigna should be overlapping on about the top area of the six pack area. The S here is stopping short.

This is how big the S should be

http://theages.superman.ws/History/b...hrightCVR3.jpg
http://scoop.diamondgalleries.com/ne...89_10127_1.jpg

want to compare with old school? Fine, lets do so.
http://www.transbuddha.com/images/uploads/Superman.jpg

Can you honestly tell me that the S is big enough or perfectly the right size? Honestly? Look at the comic book version and look at the old film version. Either way, the new one is far to small and the boots don't help much.

Remember, this character will be moving quickly, flying over in the sky and a small S on his chest wont cut it as being what it should be as an indicator of who he is. Besides, it's Superman's S. that's like shrinking the Bat logo or bringing Shazam's lighting symbol down several sizes.

QuiGonJosh 04-22-05 05:37 AM

Look man, I'm a huge Superman fan, I know what it looks like in the comics and the movie. But to me, it looks fine. The Superman symbol doesn't have to be big and bold on the suit for it to work. Why don't you take a look at the Fleisher Superman cartoons. The S is about the same size.

http://img256.echo.cx/img256/5356/fleischersupes4rk.jpg

Like Batman, you can't hold onto one version of Superman from the comics when their making a movie. You can't scrutinize because it's not entirely like the version of the comics that you like. There's just too many versions for a director to be able to create an amalgam of all the different versions into one. Some prefer the Fleischer era Superman, some the George Reeves, some the Christopher Reeve, some the new Animated Series, it's all about which one was introduced to you first when you were younger.

And you're still being really anal. Why are you comparing it to Batman? Why should the Superman suit be like Batman's in the movies? Everyone hated those damned rubber suits, they looked stupid. The one Bale is wearing though looks quite great because it doesn't look like a 70lb piece of rubber, it moves and breathes, as does the Superman suit, at least from the first look at it here in ONE picture.

Mr. Cinema 04-22-05 06:24 AM

I can live with it. I'm just psyched it's finally coming out next year. It's been a very long wait.

Patman 04-22-05 06:46 AM

Is it me, or does Routh have fat stumpy legs? I think if they raised the belt line a couple of inches, his upper torso would look so out of proportion from his lower body.

They do need to make the S bigger on the chest.

At least it doesn't have the bikini cut underwear. Spandex is enough, I don't need an arrow to direct my attention to the package too.

Patman 04-22-05 07:28 AM

Also, I'd rather they part BR's hair from left-to-right on him when he's Superman, and right-to-left when he's Clark Kent.

raven56706 04-22-05 07:40 AM

Someone get some BALCO cream because that boy is too slim and Superman is built like bull

QuiGonJosh 04-22-05 07:59 AM

Christopher Reeve wasn't really "built" either and he is in many peoples eyes the perfect representation of Superman.

The hair parted left to right? Good god! Is that really going to change the performance? This is just assinine, no offense, but jeez. -rolleyes-

raven56706 04-22-05 08:06 AM

yeah but still, he needs to show some definition here...... bring back dean cain

QuiGonJosh 04-22-05 08:07 AM

Okay, now I know you're just joking. For a second there I thought you were serious.

Meatpants 04-22-05 08:23 AM

I would prefer the S be bigger, but it's not going to make or break the movie. As long as they're not "reimagining" the suit, I'm happy.

Routh looked great as Clark, but that pic makes him look like Chris Noth.
