TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE: Peddle it somewhere else phhhhlllttttt!
One of the most boring, not to mention repeat-looping, films I have had the misfortune to have had to pay any money to suffer through, let alone a 99¢ rental.
Whoever made this movie needs to be deprived of their Cut-n-Paste keys. Catchy tune; boring movie.

And where, exactly, was there a thread in which the subject was that TOB was NOT a good movie? When I searched I saw a lot of praise; nothing critical. Nice try. Now, did anyone besides me think this was a lame movie? I don't know precisely at what point during this I realized that the plot was never going to be more than one dimensional but . . . at least I got my laundry done LOL.

.... and I know there's not any threads about getting your laundry done while watching animated foreign films.

I'm sure there are people who would agree with you, but I'm not one of them. I found this inventive, quirky and visually interesting from beginning to end.

I did find it dragged a little, but overall I very much enjoyed it. It's an animated film, but it's a silent cartoon. It revels in quiet, in slapstick, in musical sequences that balance against the more oppresive scenes. It's not for everyone, but I never really expected it to have deep characters or an involved plot. I mean, it's an animated movie with pretty much no dialogue.
Oh and I quite liked the animation style. Not my favorite, but an enjoyable romp.

Seriously, I also love animation but this one was firing on about 2 of its 8 cylinders. Geez, I think of Wallace & Grommit — I distinctly recall not only being brought to tears, and profoundly moved by the sense of isolation, but . . . geez, at least every W&G has a plot. Not to mention pee-in-your pants comedy.
Okay, I'll credit one scene in TOB: The Limo backflapping down the hill. Yes, that was funny. I am truly surprised so many of you liked this film, but . . . cest la vie!

I really liked it, though mainly I fell in love with the look of the film (I'd been waiting for that style to be used again for so long). Yeah, it's weird and at times alienating, but overall, the ameliesque (don't kill me) French whimsy won me over. I find myself appreciating cinematic uniqueness more and more these days.

I can't say that I was wholly entertained all the way through. But I appreciated it for its imagination. Not something I would ever watch again, except to support the 2d animation industry as a whole.

I think we've been hit over the head with Disney and Pixar products so much that for once when we see something interesting, it looks ordinary.

And Tyler, I will admit that the film does have its stabs at whimsy, but it's nothing like Amelie.

Seriously though — in a strange way that kind of makes my point. The W&G's are like good literature, and can be interpreted on many different dimensions. We had different experiences, which suggests that Nick Park (creator of Wallace & Grommit) is creative enough to produce movies that operate on different levels.

Miss PEACH, you've been very naughty and if you don't revise your opinion this instant I'm telling Petula Clark and you know it will only make her cry!

BTW, Pet (born 1932) was in Toronto June 12. She sang and looked like a mature 35. She also warned me to keep my eye on you.

I thought it looked amazing - it dripped with style, creativity and imagination - I really felt transported to each and every location.
I enjoyed it even more on subsequent viewings.
I feel sorry for anyone who can't appreciate such a delightful experience.

But also, the Quebec joual mumblings, the architecture of Belleville, which is a mixture of old Quebec City, Montreal and Manhattan, the assumed solidarity of the poor against the rich and powerful, the vision of a "supersized" America, etc.

But that was a thoughtful response Friend Baracine. Still hate the movie though LOL. In fact, I recall shopping the menu to see where, precisely, I had turned the dialogue (or subtitles) off LOL. I believe this was during the Rinse cycle.

I liked it. I liked the quirkiness, the stange animation style, and especially the music. I hate to admit it but I do like French stuff .

True it did drag in many areas and the lack of speaking didn't help. But this added to the quirk of this film. I'm also a big fan of animation. In fact, my love of animation goes back to 70's anime when it was less sophisticated. But I also realize that not everything has to be ANIME'd to be decent animation.
