The CG (computer animation) movie list and discussion thread
Here is a list of CG films that I was able to compile, using the IMDB.
It looks like there will be at least 9 films coming in 2005, although I am not 100% positive they will all be CG. Do you think they are oversaturating the market? EDIT: Many were bumped a couple of years.
What CG films have you enjoyed, and which ones weren't worth the price of admission?
I own and have seen all of the Pixar films, except forThe Incredibles and Cars, although I have high hopes for both. EDIT: Incredibles was great!
I never have picked up Antz, although I liked what I have seen of it, and personally feel it got a bum deal, since A Bug's Life came out at the same time.
I have the Disney disc of Dinosaur, but haven't ever felt the urge to watch it.
I also have Final Fantasy, Jimmy Neutron, Shrek, and Ice Age, and I have seen and enjoyed all of them, as well as Shrek 2.
I will probably watch The Polar Express, Shark Tale, Chicken Little (Disney,) Robots, and Madagascar, from what I have seen of them.
The Barnyard sounds interesting, as it is written and directed by Steve Oedekerk (Jimmy Neutron, Kung Pow.)
The Bee Movie appears to be written by and starring Jerry Seinfeld, and there are rumors that more of the Seinfeld cast will be in it.
Delgo has a long list of recognizable names in the cast, but that doesn't always equate to a good movie. I guess we will have to see. BTW, check out the "Nation of One" post on the message board... The guy sounds like Danol.
I haven't seen anything on Space Bites, but the summary doesn't really sound that great.

- A Bug's Life (1998 - DVD)

From what has currently been released...
THE GOOD
- The Animatrix (the Flight of the Osiris sequence)
- Antz
- A Bug's Life
- Finding Nemo
- Monsters, Inc.
- Toy Story
- Toy Story 2
THE BAD
- Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
- Shrek
- Shrek 2
THE UGLY
- Dinosaur
- Ice Age
- Jimmy Neutron
- Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie
- Shark Tale
1. Combine a good script with good visuals and you'll have a good movie. Look at PIXAR's work overall or PDI's work on Antz.
2. Combine a terrible script with amazing visuals, you'll have a bad film that is pretty to look at. Look at Shrek, Shrek 2, and Final Fantasy.
3. Combine a terrible script with some terrible visuals, you'll have an overall piece of shit. Look at Disney's Dinosaur, DreamWorks' Shark Tale, and Blue Sky's Ice Age.

I've pretty much enjoyed all the CG films i've seen. The Pixar movies, both Shrek films, Final Fantasy, and Ice Age. I don't think the market is going to be oversaturated... most of the upcoming films look very solid to me.

Most of the movies listed are decent, but with the exception of animatrix and FF they are all too childish for me to really take seriously.

As far as adding half-breeds, where would we stop?? Pretty soon, the list would include Star Wars Eps 1-3, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy!

Found a liitle piece on Monster House from VFXworld.com:
Sony has picked up the rights to animated feature MONSTER HOUSE from DreamWorks, reports VARIETY. Sony plans to make this its second "performance-capture" feature after the release of POLAR EXPRESS this fall. Robert Zemeckis' ImageMovers will produce. MONSTER will begin production at Sony Pictures Imageworks on Aug. 23. DreamWorks partner Steven Spielberg will remain an exec producer of the film.
Based on a pitch by Gil Kenan, who is set to direct the film, the story follows three children who discover that a neighbor's house is a living monster.

Unless you count all half-breeds, then no. Beauty and the beast was "PART" CGI. so I say we leave the Half breeds off the list and refrain from making personal list as they really don't add much to any sort of discussion.

How is the Animatrix on the list? It wasn't a film for the theaters, just a direct to video collection of videos.

I added it and A Day With Wilbur Robinson.
About Dinosaur - if the backgrounds were live action, but all the characters were 3-d, I would say that it should count as a CG film. If most of the characters are live-action, with a few CG characters here and there, it would still be live-action (although laden with special effects.)
Weren't some of the Animatrix films shown in the theater? Of course, they were only shorts, and I should probably leave it off the list anyway, or I would have to list the rest of the theatrically shown shorts (Chubb Chubbs, Pixar's stuff, etc.)

How about Kaena: The Prophecy? Or is this restricted to movies shown theatrically in America?
If not, then you could also add Blood: The Last Vampire, and other anime films that are digitally composed, but designed to look hand-drawn.
Final Flight Of The Osiris, the CG vignette, was shown in theaters along with Dreamcatcher.

Congratulations. Then why did you question my statement above and say you wouldn't take my word that it was a full CG movie? That to me seems a little odd if you are seeing it on production reports. Whatever though, not getting into a pissing comp with you.

Kaena did have a small theatrical run in the US.
I'm pretty sure parts of Blood were hand drawn. See this article:

I agree with Chimel. Exception, I haven't seen Shark Tale. Looks pretty lame though. And I thought Disney did a good job mixing live backgrounds with CG. I looked great. But what a boring movie. I think it would have been better without the talking dinos.
