The Greatest Movie Never Made?

What film idea/pitch do you most regret never made it to the big screen. Or which alternate version of an existing film would you like to have seen? e.g. if the intended Director had stayed on board, if another actor who screen tested for the lead got the part or if the original script for the project had been used.

Would you like to have seen the Kevin Smith version of Superman? Or Christopher Walken as Han Solo? Would Terminator have been at better movie with OJ Simpson in the Arnie role?

Hey, it will be a shit lot better than RE1 (IMO) and I'm sure you'll agree that it would be a shit lot better then RE2.

Know what? No. I don't think Romero's version of RE would be better than even RE2. I doubt his ability to out-direct a second unit hack/feature film virgin.

To not drag this thread off track, I'll add Buckaroo Banzai 2 as a film that never got made, but that I wanted to see.

Neuromancer would make an absolutely terrific movie, if done right and not Johnny Mnemonocized. There have been rumors for years about making it, but it's all just fanboy nonsense as far as I can tell. Same goes for "Snow Crash" (where my user name came from).

As for a more real example: this rejected script for the first X-Men movie is (IMO) so far superior to what was actually made that it's a travesty. What could have been....

Here's a documentary about one that actually started filming...

The Epic That Never Was

1965 - UK

Type:
Documentary

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLOT DESCRIPTION
(NR, 74 minutes).

This British television documentary, hosted by Dirk Bogarde, is about the aborted 1937 film I Claudius. The film, directed by Josef Von Sternberg and produced by Alexander Korda with an all-star cast, was shut down after only a few weeks of filming, reportedly because of its extravagant cost. This documentary shows much of the original footage, which hadn't been seen for 28 years, and features interviews with some of the original cast and crew, including von Sternberg, Flora Robson, Merle Oberon and Emlyn Williams. ~ Brian Gusse, All Movie Guide

That's a good documentary. It's included as part of the "I, Claudius" box set.

Watchmen.

hmmm, okay, it's on IMDB as 'announced.' Maybe I just don't keep up. Of course, I know it's been 'talked about' for decades.

Back to the Romero comments, anything could've been better than the final products of the Resident Evil flicks. I could've made a 90 minute scat flick with people dressed up like zombies, and it would've been more entertaining than what came out to theaters.

Now, back to the comment at hand....

I still would love to see some director get the ball rolling on The Sky Is Falling. If we can get a Passion of the Christ, we can get The Sky Is Falling.

Wasn't there a great script for "I am Legend" floating around a few years back. Also, I've read about a good King Conan script that was never used.

The script for 'George Washington' by David Franzoni is incredible. Such an interesting time in history that hasn't been recreated by Hollywood.
