Roger Ebert database now up

Over at www.rogerebert.com you can now look up all of Roger Ebert's reviews going back to the late 60's, as well as his other articles and interviews.

There's a bunch of interesting stuff there. I was interested to read his original review of Dawn of the Dead and Cool Hand Luke.

Very cool! He's always had his reviews from 1985 on over at www.suntimes.com, but this is much more complete.

rogerebert.com reroutes you to rogerebert.suntimes.com

why the databases aren't tied together is beyond me

They probably used a new database for the development of the new site, since it has more features.

Its likely that the usual ebert page will eventually just send you to this new one.

I'll wait until I see the film, but I look forward to it. His review of the first film spawned a huge debate in this forum.

This is interesting, it's his review for Night of the Living Dead from 1968. The two things that stand out the most:

1) Referring to Ben as 'the Negro' ten or tweleve times

2) The review ends with a couple of paragraphs about some films simply not being suitable for children, and this new rating organization called the MPAA.

Looks cool. Have been reading his article and review for years. His photo on the upper left is a little bit funny though.

That picture of him on the left hand corner of the site is really really scary. He's one scary looking guy.

One of the things I've learned after reading Ebert for many years is that I often have a better opinion of many movies that he pans - I don't always agree with his negative reviews. On the other hand, if he gives a movie a good review, 99 times out of 100 I'll it's something I like.

It will be great fun going back and reading some of those older reviews - thanks for the heads up on this.

I kind of wish they had his top ten lists of each year on the site, that would be cool to look at.

Interesting to see his negative reviews of now-classics like "A Clockwork Orange," which he describes as "...a paranoid right wing fantasy..." and "talky and boring."

I was reading some of the articles in his archive and it was quite a good read. I've read some of his older review on Microsoft Cinemania (I wonder why they never continue making that) so I'm not really excited to see the older review.

I am not a fan of Ebert, but I must admit, it's an impressive website, and it's free! yahoo!
