Looking for any genre in particular? Old or new? I certainly have not seen enough for me to be satisfied, but I could recommend a few from what I have seen.

To start, a couple classics I really enjoyed:

Grand Illusion (Criterion disc available)
Forbidden Games (don't believe an R1 release is available)

One of my favorite movies of the past decade. I cannot recommend the movie enough.

Brotherhood of the Wolf is awesome, definitely get the 3 disc Canadian set. I also highly recommend Nid De Guepes (released straight to video here as The Nest) an awesome remake of Assault on Precinct 13 with some great action and acting. For action/comedy go to the TAXI series (before the atrocious Latifah remake hits) and like the previous poster, Wasabi is a nice lite semi-take on Leon:The Proffesional.

Horseman on the Roof

Le Pacte Des Loups is definitely great but it's an insane genre bender that mixes period drama, horror, and martial arts. So go into it with a real open mind or else you may not like it at first. Happens a lot.

or "Le Gendarme et les Extra-Terrestres"
with Louis de Funès

If you're going to watch Manon of the Spring, you must also watch Jean de Florette.

I think you've seen too many porn stars with tacky tan lines.
