They trying to make it next year's Blade:Trinity?

Jakobi is a fine actor, but so was Nighy, and he couldn't really ascend the material.

Derek Jakobi

"S-s-s-s-selina!"

I enjoyed the first movie.
It's the way I like my horror-action movies to be. That very dark, brutal, eerie look the movie is presented in. I think it's called the cinematography of a movie.

Once you start adding bits of humor, decreasing the violence, and making the characters soft I feel the director has slipped.

Examples of movies I would have preferred seeing with a much darker and violent presentation:

Van Helsing (the monsters we grew to love/fear and a hero to finally vanquish them all--the set-up was perfect but...oh well)
Mummy (the one with Brendan Fraser)
Alien vs. Predator (come on, two of the most awesome franchises for a dark movie rolled into one and what we got instead was semi-garbage).
Pirates of the Caribbean (I know this was a Disney franchise but screw the Disney liscence and give me a fresh, new movie with Pirates, blood, and a dark atmosphere-sweet!)

Anyway, I hope the sequel to Underworld (whatever they decide to call it) continues to have the same cinematography as the first.

OK. Now I've got my flame jacket on.
Let's hear it. :)

Enjoyed the first movie but did not live up to potential completely. Idea of fights with werevolves and vampires was cool. I enjoyed the gunplay and matrix style action scenes rather then lame hand to hand fights. As someone said only silver can kill a werewolve so what would the point of hand to hand. but bill nighly did seem to kill that one guy with a punch. ending was shaky and I cannot stand ben from felicity. One thing to keep in mind the original underworld only cost something like 23 million and the director did do quite a bit with that meager budget. in contrast van helsing cost 160 million.

Viktor was able to kill Raze(werewolf) because Viktor is/was very old. This is why I don't get why the Female Vampire Elder was taken out so fast. The older both races get the stronger they get. i.e. Lucian was able to to expel the silver bullets out of his body under his own will.

I thought it didn't have to do with age. Instead, Lucian was able to push out those silver bullets only because he had the Corvinus blood in him.

Remember, I'm not a vampire or werewolf expert so don't quote me.

Hmmmmm. I'm not sure about that. I don't think he had Corvinus blood but I could be wrong.

Centurion 12-23-04 09:58 AM

Sorry, my error. I should have clarified.

I believe the scene with Lucian pushing out the bullets occured only after he bit Michael Corvinus.

I'll have to check again. This is probably something that was overlooked by the editors or director.

No, you're right. He did it after Selina took Michael. He was alone in the elevator when he expelled the bullets. But biting MC was only to get the sample for the Doctor. He spit the blood in the vial afterwards and the bite had no effect on Lucian.

I liked Underworld because of the guns. Not because I love guns but because they decided to tried to do something different, mix a little bit of classic "monster" creatures with modern weaponry. There are more than enough vampire and werewolve movies who stay true to the mythos, but this movie had its own style, mixing gun play and gothic elements. It probably didn't work for many but it worked for me.

Personally I didn't think the vampires were that weak. I think they were just easily beaten because they weren't training and keeping their hunting skills high. Its been centuries since they're had to fight a real lycan force and apparently they just drink animal blood now. Basically they've been living a pampered high society life. Those who continue to hunt lycans like the death dealers, (Selene), hold their own pretty well against even transformed werewolves.

This web page has some updates and new pictures from the Vancouver shoot:
http://www.upcominghorrormovies.com/...nderworld2.php

Check out the pics showing the war when it was legions of werewolves fighting an army of vampires on horseback, invading their castle. I tried to link them, but it would not work.

Michael Corvin 01-20-05 03:53 PM

What's with all the posts with "Corvinus?" His name was:

<-----

And before you think it is lame to name my account after that character, check the join date. Michael Corvin is actually a Crow reference.

Fincher Fan 01-20-05 07:24 PM

I'm surprised that piece of crap is getting so much love here on the forum. I'm still seeing blue after watching that movie theatrically. Hope they expand their palette this time around.

Yes that was his name.
However, he is a direct descendant of the Corvinus family. Somewhere along the line the "us" was dropped at the end of the family name.

I liked the first one although it was too dependent on the gun-play. The only thing I didn't really care for other than that was the horrid actor they chose for Kraven and the weak female vampire elder (as previously mentioned by several of you).

I'm up for a sequel.

jaeufraser 01-20-05 11:10 PM

I thought underworld was a decent enough genre flick. There were some things I didn't care for, such as, oh, CPR on vampires, and Scott Speedman is one of the more bland actors I've ever seen get a starring role. But Kate Beckinsdale in tight leather is nice, the action is amusing, and admittingly the filmmakers have a knack for getting some great production value out of a tight budget.

So, I'll watch a sequel. It's decent entertainment. Sure it draws heavily on the stylistic influences of Blade/Matrix movies, but it works as a decent genre actioner.

Ahh. Thanks, I guess.

Hospitaller 01-21-05 09:55 AM

the "love story" just seemed so tacked on and forced. and since half the movie is spent explaining to the audience how important (and in the action sequences, powerful) the elders are, it was a definite oversight for the female elder to get bagged without any real struggle. a simple 2 minute fight scene where she frags 4 or 5 werewolves first before getting taken down by a lupine elder would have gone a long way to tightening up the storyline.

although really the whole michael corvin/abomination thing was pretty corny imo

id watch a sequel in the theatre though

I'm totally excited about this new movie. Apparently the first 20 minutes will be a prequel of sorts. We'll get to see Marcus for the 1st time and Amelia will hava bigger part in the new movie.

Centurion 03-25-05 10:11 PM

If someone could refresh my memory...

Is Amelia the elder that got smoked?

I kinda liked this movie but somehow, for me, it left a little something to be desired. I can't even place my finger on it. I saw it with my then-girlfriend in the theater and we both felt the same way. We are both avid vampire fans and dig the whole werewolf vibe too (and K. Beckinsale  ) so I was surprised I came out with that all too familiar "I liked it... kinda" feeling. One thing I know that did bother me was the way the crossbred Corvin looked at the end. Pretty schlocky to me.

Anyway I'm rooting for a better sequel and will be catching it on the big-screen.

Well, with the success of the 1st movie comes a bigger budget so we'll see.

OK, cool.
I didn't even bother looking around for the English version.
Those pics show a lot of Amelia...err...aahh...whatever her real name is.

She's got a bangin' body for an elder.
Ewwww, yuck! Did I just say that?! :p

ruk 03-26-05 01:39 PM

loved the first, cant wait till december 9th.

RocShemp 03-27-05 06:53 PM

I'm looking forward to this.

So, to coincide with the release of the sequel, do you suppose we'll get a brand new Underword: Yes-This-Time-We're-Releasing-A-REAL-Director's-Cut-Edition plus a free movie ticket? ;)

i doubt it, they already have 3 different releasesbut then again never say never.

RocShemp 03-27-05 11:23 PM

That's my point. I think they've milked the first film for all it's worth but I somehow have afunny feeling they might release yet another version as a tie-in for the sequel.

Baron Of Hell 03-28-05 05:43 PM

Didn't care for the first one so don't really care all that much for a second one. Didn't like the plot holes, the hulk at the end, the super duper vampire, hairless werewolves, trying to hard to be the next matrix, the acting, and story was kind of boring.

Its good for a rental. They could do better with the next movie but I doubt it.

island007 03-28-05 06:24 PM

I liked the first movie. I will watch this in the theatre and then buy the DVD when it is released.

Dr. DVD 03-28-05 07:21 PM

So Derek Jakobi is no longer Marcus I guess? :(

Who is Tony Curran? Is he a decent actor?
