Hmm.. I certainly hope not. :)

I saw this last night and really enjoyed it. The film's like a video game. Non-stop action and an "anything goes/never take itself seriously" attitude. I thought the ending was a little cliched, but that could have been intentional. Then again, how do you end a movie as fast-paced as that one?

Yes, it's the original Chinese soundtrack with English subtitles.

The release looks to be rather wide. It's playing at three theaters around my town.

I really like this movie. I expected it to be amusing but I was literally was laughing out loud during a few scenes. I would definately recommend it for a fun time.

MasterCXtreme 04-20-05 08:47 PM

I was actually kind of hoping for a dubbed version, but oh well. Still looks wild.

It's opening everywhere today. I'm going to go see it tonight!

I'm glad they didn't dub it. that would have ruined it for me.

Baron Of Hell 04-23-05 01:21 AM

Was Kung Fu Hustle just a little bit frightening? And did any boys move fast as lighting? I only ask because I heard Jackson had a cameo.

Rip and tear.... Rip and tear Baron....

Awesome Kung Fu movie, loved it

Saw it. Highly entertaining to say the least. Nothing on the level of Hero of CTHD, but loads of fun. If people don't mind reading subtitles (I fear this will be the dealbreaker), then it should entertain many.

The Antipodean 04-23-05 11:06 AM

Best kung fu movie I've seen in a long time, hell of a lot of fun. "The Beast" was great.

dvd_talker 04-23-05 12:43 PM

"I love Kung Fu" - Jennifer Aniston's character in Office Space

The scene with the footrace went overboard on the cartoonishness deep end, but I enjoyed this movie.

resinrats 04-23-05 02:58 PM

I know I won't be seeing it in the theaters since it wasn't dubbed. I saw it a few months ago subbed so no reason to see it subbed again.

And why not dub it? It isn't any sort of serious movie so might as well dub it so people can just sit back and watch the action. To me, listening to the origonal language does nothing for me. Just a bunch of babble since I don't understand the language. As to the to the excuse of the dialog wrong in dubs, how do you know the subs are any better in being correct?

Trigger 04-23-05 03:22 PM

Stephen Chow is a brilliant comedian and dubbing him takes away from that whether you understand the language or not. I don't understand the language either, but I've seen movies of his dubbed and it doesn't work.

Jackskeleton 04-23-05 03:26 PM

total agreement trigger.

QuiGonJosh 04-23-05 04:09 PM

Saw it today! Friggin fantastic! Like a Looney Tunes cartoon brought to life! I'm definitely buying this!

clemente 04-23-05 06:19 PM

My issue with dubbing isn't the artistic value of the movie, its that it bugs me when their isn't any synch between the audio and the perfomers lips. There's a disconnect that my brain can't ignore and I enjoy the movie less.

I saw this movie with someone who doesn't speak or read English very well, but they walked away with a silly grin just as big as mine.

devilshalo 04-23-05 06:49 PM

There is still tonal inflections by the original actor that may not have translated well by whoever they used to dub his lines.

aw614 04-23-05 08:08 PM

cantonese slang when translated in english the meaning is lost, kinda pointless to dub it, its pretty much you gotta now the slang to get some of the jokes.

Patman 04-23-05 08:15 PM

I also thought this movie was a hoot, and many scenes were very reminiscent of live-action Looney Tunes action. There are a few jarring plot transitions, but the fights scenes are so much fun, I forgave any and all plot-related clumsiness.

Go see it with an audience, much more laughter mileage to be had that way.

I give it 3.5 stars, or a B+ for knowing its genre and hitting the mark with that audience.
