How do you compare two movies that are totally different?
I love both these movies for different reasons, much different than one another. I think PF is higher on my top list than GF however.

I'll add one for goodfellas.....

There are so few truly great movies I refuse to pick between them. There's room enough for both, and I'm glad of that.

Both films are in my top 20 favorites but Goodfellas is in my top 5. I pick Goodfellas.

Put me down for Goodfellas! I never get bored of watching that movie...Pulp Fiction, on the other hand, just doesn't have that same kind of repeat viewing

Goodfellas take away tarintino's character and the cab scene actully all of bruce willis's character and I would go with Pulp Fiction

Pulp is amazing, the dialogue and everything is phenominal. They're both two of my favorite films ever, but I have to go with Pulp, barely.

Goodfellas, as if it were a contest.

That's what I was thinking. Both are great, but Pulp just created a genre of it's own. I like Pulp better and think it's a better movie.

Pulp Fiction is an original masterpiece that draws a little bit from different genres.

Goodfellas is a gangster movie. A good one but nothing we haven't seen before.

Pulp Fiction gets my vote.

Goodfellas: A crime masterpiece made by a mature filmaker who understands the true nature of violence and its consequences.

Pulp Fiction: A crime masterpiece made by a burgeoning filmaker who takes artistic license with violence and its consequences.

Both have well written dialog, superb ensemble cast, memorable set pieces, and incredible editing. IMO both are equally well crafted films in their own way each havjng their necessary slow moments that build up characters and momentum. I think the vote will split mainly among age groups, younger people preferring PF. As works of serious pop art I think both have much to recommend.



**Personally, Pulp Fiction didn't feel as fresh or "new" as Reservoir Dogs. I guess my expectations were too high. Ever since then, Tarantino's films felt more diluted with each new release.

But with Goodfellas, I didn't think Scorsese could top Raging Bull or Taxi Driver (both equal in terms of greatness to Pulp Fiction). But with Goodfellas he did. Goodfellas doesn't feel as self endulgent as Pulp Fiction. And Goodfellas has greater replay value for me as well. Just my preference.



***These aren't the only two when I think of Great Modern American Crime films. L.A. Confidential and The Untouchables should also be worthy of consideration.

Goodfellas definitely in every way.

Not to say GoodFellas was not a good movie... I really think we are comparing apples and oranges here. Yes both were about crime etc... But wasn't GoodFellas a "loose interpretation" of something that actually happened?

Pulp Fiction being pure entertainment... and probably one of the most quotable movies I have ever seen. [nostalga] I remember back in the day, going to restaurants with friends and re-enacting dialogue from the movie... "I don't eat bacon"[/nostalga]

I think both films are excellent, in their own way.

I love both, but Pulp Fiction. Who said the movie isnt good for repeat viewings? Jeez, whenever that movie is on tv i'll keep it on, just like Shawshank Redemption, I dont think Goodfellas has the same effect.

Goodfellas. I love them both, and Pulp Fiction is easier to watch. But when I'm willing to put the effort into it, Goodfellas is more rewarding.

Goodfellas wins, hands down.

Both great films, but Pulp Fiction is the one that's in my player most often.
