Town shots look good. New Pennywise is uninspired and bland, nothing like Curry's interpretation.

I'm still reading the book - have been for the better part of a year - and I hope they can do it justice.

I remember the old ABC miniseries that starred John Ritter years ago. Pennywise creeped me out in that series. However, IIRC that miniseries had such a disappointing end after a strong 1st part.

Hopefully the feature film doesn't suck like the TV miniseries.

Hmm... I'm the opposite. I like what I see. Curry looked like Bozo with sharp teeth. This Pennywise looks truly demonic. The red painted nose is an improvement over the traditional rubber ball nose.

I'm a big fan of King's writing but sadly that's his MO. The guy sucks at ending his stories.

That's why I find Curry more disturbing. He's the quintessential circus clown, goofy and smiling and full of surprises, but what lurks beneath is a sharp juxtaposition.

That's why that's still my favorite book of his to this day. That story, The Body(Stand By Me) and Eyes of the Dragon are the only stories he ended appropriately IMO. If he would have ended his version of The Mist the way the movie did, I would have counted that one too.

My mom has every Stephen King novel ever made and yet she even says he doesn't know how to finish a story.

There's a few others that I'd add like Rita Hayworth & the Shawshank Redemption (better ending than the movie) and 11/22/63 among others.

The TV series had a very weak ending don't confuse that with the book.
The show was made for tv before tv shows could be actually scary.

So you can't compare yet. You've seen Curry in action. This is just a photo. It's like looking at a photo of both Super Bowl teams in their huddles and saying it looks like the most boring game ever.

True, but hardly anyone likes clowns anymore(because of It?) so skipping the façade seems appropriate for today's audiences.

I can't argue with that. Even as a kid, when it orginally aired, I remember thinking what a bland, boring, miniseries IT was.

I agree. When it originally aired, my whole family watched part one and the clown in the storm drain was very disturbing. We were excited to see how it ended but part 2 was a big letdown.

If they are updating this to '80s and today then I have a lot of questions. Pennywise appeared as many of the classic monsters(Mummy, Wolfman). I'm not sure that works in a modern setting.

In an 80s setting, it would probably be Jason, Freddy, Michael Nyers, Leatherface, and Pinhead.

The biggest stumbling block here would be that those iconic characters are all trademarks of a bunch of different owners.

Or they could just go with generic, though 80s-inspired, monsters like werewolves, vampires, slashers, and zombies.
