Please help me identify this 80's movie

I remember seeing a movie on TV when I was younger but I don't remember the name of it or even what it was about. One of the only things I remember is a scene where a young boy sneaks out of his house at night and hitches a ride by climbing on top of this mysterious blue van. The van had a painting of a giant spider on the roof and the boy was laying flat on his stomach to avoid being detected by the "bad guys". I don't know why he sneaks on top of the van or even where the van ends up going.

I know it's not much to go on but any help would be appreciated. This could possibly be a made for TV movie or maybe even an episode of CHiPs or some other random show I used to watch as a kid.

Also, if this isn't the right forum feel free to move it to a better suited location. Thanks again.

Sounds a lot like The Hostage (1966), a dud "thriller" with Harry Dean Stanton, but I don't remember anything about a spider, and the kid was in the van not on top of it.

Is it that one that starred that guy who did that thing?

Was it that one with the kid off E.T. about SPYS and Atari? Didn't that also have the guy off Quantum Leap on it?

Edited to add:

Oh my god - I was way off...

So was this just an extended commercial for Atari? I remember seeing it on a very, very long flight once. I could have sworn it was the guy off Quantum Leap. Which came first? The movie or the game?

I think the main guy was Dabney Coleman who played a dual role as the Agent as well as his dad.

I would assume the movie and game was a tie in but I'm not sure.

It could have been Cloak & Dagger. I even thought that it might be, but it's been so long since I've seen it. They don't seem to show it on HBO anymore. Thanks for the suggestions, I might have to see if I can track down a copy on VHS.

I loved this movie, don't remember it well, but I don't think Elliot stowed away atop a blue van with a giant spider on it. Pretty sure. I do remember Jack Flack!
You mean to tell me this fine gem is not on DVD?
