LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Matt Dillon will take to the wheel in the upcoming "Herbie: Fully Loaded."
The 40-year-old actor will play the bad guy in the Disney film opposite Lindsay Lohan, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Herbie" centers on the adventures of the titular sentient Volkswagen Beetle who has entered the fast-paced world of NASCAR. Dillon plays Trip, a bad-boy racer.
Also cast are Breckin Meyer as Lohan's brother and Michael Keaton as their father.
Angela Robinson ("D.E.B.S.") will begin shooting the film this month.
The strong-willed car first appeared in Disney's 1968 comedy "The Love Bug." Franchise films, a CBS series and 1997 TV movie followed.
Dillon has appeared in over 30 movies including "The Flamingo Kid," "Drugstore Cowboy," "There's Something About Mary" and "City of Ghosts," which he also wrote and directed. He next stars opposite Sandra Bullock and Brendan Fraser in the ensemble drama "Crash," which will be released in 2005.
How the mighty have fallen!
Both him & Michael Keaton seem to be looking for a franchise to keep the money rolling in. Though since he is a bad guy, he probably gets run over by Herbie in the end.

I'm guessing they are using the new Beetle's look?
Man I remember the old Herbie movies, I have a slight memory of Herbie Goes Bananas, but I never remember seeing the remake in 1997.

Dillon is usually a sure thing in almost every role. He hasn't been in too many stinkers, and he usually picks really great roles. He stikes me as someone into his craft. I would guess that he thought he could do something great with the character.

The trailer can be seen here:

I agree with Slow Hands, the trailer looks awful. I hope that the CGI shown in it isn't the finished product, because it sticks out like a sore thumb. I think the trailer for Pixar's CARS had more realistic CGI.
