What I liked most about the film is the true representation of Los Angeles it shows. Even the three clubs they shot in are real, even maintaining their names. Fever and El Rodeo really do exist, I'm not sure about the Jazz club.

Just saw this yesterday - and a big
I can overlook some "convenient coincidences" when the situations and plot are as involving as this, and two solid actors create strong characters. Add in stunning photography (saw it digital) and smooth "effortless" direction, and it adds up to one terrific movie!

Saw this Saturday and loved. Best movie I've seen so far this year (may be short lived as I'm seeing Garden State this week).
It has some flaws and cliche's as disussed above, but nothing to really keep me from enjoying it.
3.5/4.0 for me.

i saw it last night, and what really bothred me was, when vincent took out the power in the building, the elevaders still worked and the lighting in the loby was way to bright to be back up lighting.
i did get a good laugh out of the scean where vincent killed those two punks, and just shot that last guy just because.

he only cut power and phone lines to that floor, thats why the lobby was still lit, elevators are probably not tied to that floors power lines anyways.
he shot the guy because the guy was still writhing, on the floor, I guess he didnt die fast enough.

Man, this flick was terrible. Great performances and direction but I honestly can't remember seeing a flick this cheesy since 1988.
And what the hell was that music playing when Mark Ruffalo arrived on the scene? God that was awful and talk about cliches.............holy shit.

I rented it a few weeks back when it was released, and absoultley loved it. Some of the music was questionable, and had some obvious cliches.... but I thought it all worked perfectly. In my opinion, it's one of the best movies of 2004.

I saw the movie recently and it was a bit overrated. Don't get me wrong, its a great film, but some people and critics are gushing all over this movie. The main problem I had was the ending. It was anticlimatic.

Got this for X-mas and LOVED it. Cruise and Foxx were great and Mann really set up a fantastic story. Actually, i may watch it again tonight for even better appreciation!

I like him, he is a great "blend" actor (you are never really sure that it is him). But I am sick of seeing him everywhere!
Statham will return as the star of Collateral 2: The Transporter Hunts Down Max.

As for Ruffalo, he's only in the movie because Val Kilmer's commitment to Alexander forced him to pull out.

Saw it for the 1st time on DVD and thought it was wonderful! Cruise was great in it, a total badass! Theres a certain scene when they get stopped by the cops and he tells Max (Jamie), "Dont corner me, you dont have the trunk space." Awesome

I agree, this was definately an entertianing movie. I don't think the movie really tried to be anything more than an effective action/thriller, and with that in mind it did it very well. The plot was at times perhaps a little over the top, but I don't mind, and the fantastic performances and assured direction by Mann made for a rollicking good time. And, quite frankly, sometimes it's fun to watch a film where lots of people get shot, especially when the filmmaking behind it is of such high quality.

Michael Mann even touched on this after the armored car robbery in "Heat." Once you've murdered one person, you might as well kill everybody. The punishment is the same and there are no witnesses left alive to pick you out of a lineup.
