Jamie Foxx: Collateral & Ray

I'm sure most of you here have seen the trialer for Collateral by now, the new film starring Foxx and Tom Cruise. When I first saw that trailer, it really interested me. For one because Cruise seems to play the "bad guy", and Foxx came across to me in the trailer as pretty convincing in his role. So I'm really pumped for that film, for better or for worse.

Then, before I, Robot, I saw the trailer for Ray. That trailer, it blew me away even more. Jamie Foxx just looks like he is going to be able to play that role just perfectly. He looks like he IS Ray Charles, it's just amazing to me. I was shocked at Foxx in Ali, I feel he was very convincing in that film, but this one looks just outstanding. I may just be overstating things here, but Jamie Foxx looks like he is actually becoming a great solid actor. I can't wait for both of the films I've said here, and especially Ray.

As for the film itself...wow, I hope to God it's as good as I think it's going to be.

Is anyone else here impressed with Foxx yet?

Foxx is definately trying to expand his repetoire. I remember when he was on "In Living Color," and now it looks like he may be setting himself up to be one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood.

In the trailer for Ray, whe he goes "Well I'm gonna make it do what it do baby, heh heh, yeah." it just gets me every time, it's great. I smell much bigger things for Foxx already.

I agree with Groucho. His performance in Ali was one of the best reviewed in the entire movie. Next he's co-starring in an action drama with Tom Cruise. Now he's the star of a Ray Charles biopic. This guy has a very promising career ahead of him.

Okay, I just watched the Ray trailer, which I hadn't seen before making my first post. Based only on that trailer, I wouldn't be surprised to see Foxx get an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.

I agree, he's really gonna be taking off. I remmeber him from mostly comedy type stuff, then he vanished and now he's back with a vengeance. Good for him I agree about Ray too, and especially now that Ray Charles has passed away, if he can put out a great memorable performance he'll be set up for a great career.

But then isn't he the guy that was caught playing naked basketball by his neighbors or something?

Speaking as a lifelong Ray Charles fan (I've seen ray live about a dozen or so times) I have to say that trailer really blew me away.

And was that Curtis "Booger" Armstrong... made up like Atlantic Records honcho Ahmet Ertegun?!?

I've liked him since Any Given Sunday. Good to see him getting some good projects. Here's hoping they don't team him up with Will Smith somewhere down the line in a buddy-cop action/comedy flick.

Wait! You mean there might be another good black actor out there besides Denzel, Don Cheadel, and Sidney Portier?

RyoHazooky are you listening?

Thanks for adding that insight to the conversation.

I've been able to tell just by a trailer, at times, if someone/something would get a nomination or not. At times, it is indeed possible to notice talent to that extent, from just a trailer.

The only reason he gets roles is because of quotas. Everybody knows that.

Me and my brother use to watch his show when it first came on religiously every week.

The episode were him and the nerdy guy have a Michael Jackson dance-off is probably still the funniest thing i've seen in my life to this day.

Good to see him coming up a bit.Collateral looks good despite Cruise already showing signs of some major overacting in the preview.

Can't wait for Ray.

Fine you're right. I personally think Kevin Spacey could have played a much more convincing Ray Charles.
