Strong Agreement.

Despite this review, and some of the things I've heard about the twist, I will still see this with an open mind.

Looks like ebert doesn't like to be teased for a good two hours without any decent pay out also.

The problem with Shyamalan is his movies have been gimmick movies where if you knew the gimmick, the movie is spoiled. They are barely better than extended Twilight Zone episodes. Sixth Sense worked because it was his first, as he keeps redoing the same thing it's getting old and the gimmicks are getting cheaper.
Wow, what sounds completely word for word like something I would say. Exactly word for word.

That's the problem with shaymalan, he depends on his gimmicks and teases to build suspense. By the time you get to some sort of boiling point you just want to scream "GET ON WITH IT" and not only do you not get a good pay out, but you waited to long for it so you stopped caring.

It's not that I doubt it, but how can one critic say it's the best film you'll see this year and another give it 1 star.

How do we know this review is legit? Source don't mean shit on the internet.

and ebert gave signs four stars,

so I doubt he would take the time and critsize signs in his second paragraph.

The suntimes may not want to print this till thursday or friday. M. Night really put a tight lip clause on all reviews and so forth about the film that they could not show up till after or atleast day of release

doesn't mean this is any less likely to be his review. Most of all, the spoilers are correct, the type of writing seems like eberts. I have no reason to doubt that it is real.

Heaven forbid one person love it and another hate it

Here is a tidbit from IMDB.

Sorry, but I can confirm that the review posted on Rotten Tomatoes is, in fact, Roger Ebert's actual review.

Just because Ebert's review hasn't posted to the Sun-Times Web site yet doesn't mean it hasn't been written. His reviews are syndicated to a lot of newspapers across the country. I have access to his syndication service, and that review was sent to newspapers this morning, for publication Friday (many entertainment sections are put together earlier in the week).

Love that!

My faith in Ebert has been wavering, but I am regaining. I can't stand Shyamalan's ego.
(and IMHO Unbreakable was his best movie so far)

I am loving Ebert more and more!

First he sticks it to the LOTR fanboys by giving them a 3.5/4 on the last two movies and now a 1/4 on a Shamalamadingdong movie !

I'll wait to see what Roeper thinks. I've found my tastes are closer to his than Ebert's.

I'm a BIG fan of Ebert, and have read a lot of his reviews -- and that sure sounds like his voice to me, right down to that final paragraph.

M Night gets a lot of internet hate. I mean, seriously. His ego? Is that a valid reason to dislike a filmmaker? And truth be told, I think M Night is a fabulous filmmaker. While his stories and ideas are simple, his handling of characters and mood and atmosphere and pacing and suspense I think is excellent. Slow, not for everyone, but obviously it works for many.

Nonetheless I look forward to seeing this. I know what the ending payoff is, kinda disapointing really, but hey as long as they include that line in the end. But really, the twists don't make his films. For the Sixth Sense, it made it a sensational watch. But for Unbreakable, and Signs, and watching the Sixth Sense again, it's those other things M Night excels with, that keeps me watching.

Looks like Mr. Formula ran out of steam.

Maybe it's time he changes it up and offers us something different.... and hopefully we don't get "Wide Awake 2" as a result.

I don't dislike him right now because of his ego. If I did, I'd be forced to hate so many people in Hollywood, that I wouldn't ever be able to enjoy anything that came out of the city.

I've started to dislike him, simply because I believe he's growing lazy, and is now using "the twist" as a crutch, to cover up for his shortcomings. What good is a twist, if everyone expects it? For me, not that good at all.

As I said to someone else...

Sooner or later, or heck even now, people will go to his films not for his work, not for the film, but instead they go for the big twist. They will pay less attention to the actors, to the actual meat of the story, and instead spend their time on trying to figure everything out. Sooner or later, that's going to really hurt him, and he needs to realize that.

His next film, it needs to be a straight up film, without a big twist.

Then again, for most, that in itself would be considered his greatest twist of them all. ;-)

I'll reserve judgement till I see it. After all this is the guy that praised Speed 2, Tomb Raider, Hollywood Homicide, and gave Blue Velvet one star.

Wrong.

As I've said before in numerous other threads, The Sixth Sense could have ended with Osment and his mom in that car near the end and it still would've been a critically-acclaimed hit.

Unbreakable could have ended with Willis flashing his son that newspaper at the dinner table, simply coming to terms with who he is and what his powers were, and it still would've been a terrific take on comic-book mythos.

*NEWSFLASH*= Signs did NOT have a "twist ending". There was no gimmick.

The Sixth Sense - I can almost never watch that film again. The entire point is the big twist at the end. Without that twist, to me, the rest of the film is really lacking. Certainly not one of the best films of the decade without the twist.

Unbreakable - I like this film regardless of the ending, twist, or whatever. This one would have worked without them trying to make a big deal about some sort of twist. It wasn't even a twist really for me, it was more of a confirmation of what really was.

Sighs - The twist to me was that even though these monster aliens are coming, people are running scared, they ended up being the easiest thing ever to dispose of, since water kills them. That in and of itself however is a horrible "twist", since it forces you to 100% shut down your brain, and try to accept an error in the story and filmmaking.

That review is classic Ebert. If you watch the commentaries he's done and read more than just his reviews, you can't doubt his intelligence and knowledge of film.
