But then who would play the Transporter?
|
Since Clive Owen seems unlikely, I'll say it again as well: Alexis Denisof (Wesley from "Angel.")
What's really unfortunate is that Casino Royale was the one Bond story that Pierce Bronsnan always wanted to do. Now he doesn't even get the part! Where's Eon's gratitude for Pierce saving their franchise? It seems like after Cubby Broccoli and his wife died, the producers lost all sense of direction. Maybe these two were the ones keeping the series on course, and now with them gone, Bond is going to end up like all other sequels - with a "Superman III/IV", "Batman and Robin," or "Alien 3/Resurrection/Vs. Predator" that just leaves the franchise smoldering in flames. The Bond series was never big on continuity, but a young Bond makes no sense. All of this has left a bad taste in my mouth, and I might end up skipping a Bond film for the first time in over 20 years. |

If not Clive, then I really hope they go for either Jason Statham or Daniel Craig...

Is Brosnan back as 007?
The producers of the James Bond franchise are apparently having so much trouble finding someone to slip into 007's trousers that they might be coaxing Pierce Brosnan back to the role. According to Bond fansite MI6, Brosnan is set to return as James Bond in "Casino Royale" if studio pressure holds out. Sources say Brosnan was dumped from Bond because he was asking for too much money - that's hogwash, says the actor. Brosnan was apparently only chasing £10 million to reprise the role of the suave super-agent. "Given what the films make it was a spit in the bucket", he said recently. The site says that Sony are having a hard time trying to find a replacement for the star of Bond hits "Goldeneye", "Tommorrow Never Dies", "The World is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day" and most at the studio are keen for fluffy-chest to return. "Sony are pulling their hair out over it, apparently. I was in their offices just a few weeks ago pitching Thomas Crown 2. They said, "come back" and I said "it's not up to me, guys", Brosnan tells. "I think I was caught up between the egos of the producers and the studios, really. They (the producers) didn't know whether to go younger, they didn't know what to do, period. I don't know what the truth is. It could be as honest as that, but it seems strange, especially as each film made more and more money." MI6 say that it's looking very likely that Brosnan is going to return. Says the site, "Brosnan is now the top contender for the role of James Bond in "Casino Royale" after all, due to studio pressure and the lack of an obvious candidate to replace him". MOVIEHOLE.net |
If true, that would be awesome.
|
Well it is official, the producers have no fucking idea what they are doing.
Brosnan though? |
I'm glad to have Brosnan back, if this turns out to be true.

I read Casino Royale, it is sophisticated, though very interesting. To have some young shithead play that part would be a crime. Just give it to Brosnan already, it is no way to go out with the worst Bond movie of all time, Die Another Day. That movie is worse than Moonraker or A View to a Kill.
|
In the beginning, Bond films used to come out the very next year following a previous film. So if they're smart enough to capitalize on the year 2007 (for obvious reasons), can they make Casino Royale in '06 with Brosnan and bring out his replacement for a new movie in '07? Although deciding to push this next movie for '06 instead of '07 makes me think not.

Brosnan being back for Casino Royale would be fantastic... but I think we're ignoring that even though they've wisely brought back Martin Campbell (GoldenEye) to direct, they're using the same writers as Die Another Day AND The World Is Not Enough. If there's a fatal mistake to be made, IMHO, this is it. |
I thought they brought in a guy to rewrite the shit script by those guys?

It would be a smart business move to bring Brosnan back. He is well established in the role and audiences seem to like him as Bond.
None of the candidates that seemed to be getting a serious look were all that appealing on a mass audience level (Daniel Craig? Come on!), so it makes sense to stick with Brosnan one more time. |

More info against Brosnan as bond. Courtesy of IGN:
September 23, 2005 - The British tabloid The Sun, citing an insider, reports that oft-rumored Bond contenders Daniel Craig and Henry Cavill both met with the producers on the same day to film screen tests at Pinewood Studios for Casino Royale. The tabloid actually says the pair were "auditioning together." Perhaps The Sun didn't mean to imply that Craig and Cavill actually filmed a scene together. If they did then rumors that Craig is actually going to play the villainous Le Chiffre opposite Cavill as a young Bond seem more believable. The Sun claims the hunt for the next James Bond is "down to the final hurdle. But there is trouble amongst the decision makers in coming to a conclusion on where to take Bond next. ... There are still a number in the running." Could one of those candidates be U.K. actor Steven Brand? MI6 was tipped off that a British radio DJ reported Brand was a "surprise" choice to take over the role of 007. MI6 doesn't seem too convinced by the report but the 38-year-old Brand, best known stateside as the evil Memnon in The Scorpion King, certainly looks the part. Brand's credits include mostly TV work such as The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer (a prequel to Stephen King's Rose Red) and Hellsing. |
