'I, Robot' pulls down $17m Friday

Friday box office estimates from www.boxofficemojo.com

1. I, ROBOT $17,600,000

2 SPIDER-MAN 2 $7,040,000/total $284,552,000

3 A CINDERELLA STORY $5,620,000

4 ANCHORMAN $4,451,000/$47,558,000

5 KING ARTHUR $2,117,000/$33,066,000

6 FAHRENHEIT 9/11 $2,046,000/$88,855,000

7 THE NOTEBOOK $1,720,000/$49,949,000

8 DODGEBALL: A TRUE UNDERDOG STORY $1,072,000/$102,424,000

9 WHITE CHICKS $996,000/$61,030,000

10 THE TERMINAL $927,000/$68,976,000

"I Robot" looks like it might have a $50 million weekend, better than I would've picked. "9/11" is a lock for breaking $100 million I'd say.

It's Will Smith....America loves Will Smith. Not really a surprise...though I stand waiting for all the crapping that is to come.

That's a pretty damn big Friday opening for it. I think I want to see it only for supporting Alex Proyas, not Will Smith.

Yeah, but this film will pull in 50-53 million and then it will completely disappear. This weekend's take only means anything if it can halfway sustain it. I predict a drop by 55-60%, and a final tally somewhere in the neighborhood of 130-135 million. That's not impressive by today's standards and budgets.

I can, but I have no reason to say it, as there has been no threadcrap in this thread.

Boxofficemojo made an estimate.
Terrell made a prediction that wasn't out of place. He didn't voice any like or dislike for the film.

Probably more for a discussion thread on the movie than here, but I didn't feel Proyas presence as much I would have wished.

Agreed. It was definately a Will Smith movie and not a Proyas film. But I like Will Smith so it was good.

I haven't seen it, so I can't comment on the movie per se. However, I did get that same feeling while watching the trailer. Of course with Dark City, my expectations of him are so high, it would be hard to even come close to recreating that.

Nice take for I, Robot. Not to shabby opening for Ms. Duff either.

Yeah I'm suprised that Cinderella beat Anchorman this weekend. I really thought that would flop.

Truth is Spiderman was not the behemoth overseas like it is domestically. While it's 400 million gross in the US was huge, it made about 300 million elsewhere. While that's a good take, it's more in line with movies like Troy and Bond movies than LoTR or Harry Potter. Potter movies have all had bigger overseas grosses than the first Spiderman did. So it's not that surprising.
