Boycotting I, Robot??
I've heard of people trying to boycott the new I, Robot movie, but why?
|
Perhaps this
|
Because of the change from the source material? who knows. who cares? people do a lot of stupid things I try not to question.
Simply put, I want to spread the word that people should boycott the movie “I, Robot” during its opening week in protest of 20th Century Fox’s blatant abuse and misuse of Isaac Asimov’s classic book. I don’t expect that anything I say will make a dent in the movie’s bottom line, but maybe – just maybe – the studio will get the message: don’t mislead your audience |
I read through that guy's points.
That being said, Eff that guy. I'm seeing this opening weekend. What else were the creators to do? If they didn't call it I, Robot, people would be bitching about how similar it is to Asimov's series. |
Isn't the film supposed to be a "prequel" to the events that occur in Asimov's series?
|
I'll boycott it cause it looks like ass
|
Lame. Most of the people who see it will never even know it was ever a book.
And why should it matter. |
People complaining about a movie they haven't yet seen!?!?! Unheard of!
|
Especially on this forum.
|
Complaining about a movie I havent seen yet? No.
Complaining about a movie baised on: A) A shitty trailer B) A history of Will Smith ("Welcome to Earth!" C) Hollywood's track record of raping the source material D) Knowing that Asimov is WAY too intelligent for the average mouth breathing movie goer. All of these things added together mean that while I'll freely admit that I'm judging a book by it's cover, it's an informed judgement. On the other hand, the petition will not make a damn bit of good. I'm not signing anything. But I am voting the best way I can, by not seeing it. |
Actually, if you read the complaint, it says that originally, I, Robot was a completely unrelated movie called Hardwired, but they threw in the title and some elements of his stories to market it. I agree the boycott is silly though. I loved what Proyas did in Dark City, so I want to see what he did with this film.

People avoid movies that look bad all the time. It's only a boycott if you want to buy a ticket, but don't to send some message.
|
I have ~ 2,500 shares of I, Robot on hsx, it's up ~ 7% from when I bought it last week.
On Jay Leno they had the costar of the movie, some young kid (don't remember his name). They showed a few clips, the CGI looked really good. |
It's got the Batman teaser trailer attached to it.
|
From the director of DARK CITY. That's enough for a ticket purchase for me.
Of course, I'll exit the theater as soon as I hear Will Smith yell out "WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" when driving a vehicle at a very high speed. |
The movie looks like absolute crap. I will not boycott it, I will simply not go see it.
|
I loved the books and I intend to see it. I think that the movie is being done by Proyas means most should at least wait for the reviews before deciding to not like it.

So what, it goes against Asimov's Laws whats the big deal?
Its as simple as this...if according to Asimov the people who program robots program them to not do any harm to humans then cant someone just come along and deprogram them or program them a different way?? |

It has nothing to do with the book right? He figured the name was good way to market it right? I know someone who interviewed Ray Bradbury and he's still not happy about this. |
0/10 for that one giant. :p
