Sure, Ray's not happy about it, but Moore's not confusing any fans of "Fahrenheit 451", nor is he hoping to lure in fans of said book with his title. Moore is not using characters or recognizable devices from Bradbury's book while the makers of Ir, Robot are quite blatantly "misusing" Asimov's book. Hence, Moore's film's title is a social comment; I, Robot's title is ill-fitting and misleading.

I don't think the title is that misleading. I'm pretty sure if you've seen a trailer, you know its Will Smith and cool weapons of the future vs. Robots and their creator. You won't be expecting the book.

I agree. it's not misleading because really.. how many folks can really say off the top of their head that they have read the book? it's loosely based off it so why not.

Ditto. I saw the commercial, and immediately the story seemed too much like a ripoff of the terminator and matrix movies for me to stomach.

People throw the word boycott around too much.

I wouldve boycotted this movie when the first trailer came out that had so much bad Will Smith puns in it but then the later trailers actually make it out to be a good looking action flick so Ill see it on that note.

Wow, people don't like a movie and now they're going to forget about pointlessly bitching about it and just not spend $10 to waste their time on a movie they knew was going to be bad (at least for them) when they walked into the theater only to come back here and then endlessly complain about how it sucked? I'm impressed.

The first teaser trailer impressed me, because I thought it was going to involve some robot protagonist and Will Smith was going to do a voice-over. Alas. Instead, we get Terminator 7: This time it's REALLY war (Terminators 4-6 had their titles changed to "The Matrix Trilogy").

I wouldn't call the movie a "prequel" to the events in the book, since the book starts with a story about the first robot sold publicly as kind of a childs toy/babysitter. This is suppose to be a story that happens later in the timeline of the book, but since the second story in the book has robots ban from "living" on earth, this doesn't fit into the books timeline at all.

As for the boycott, I will most likely go see the movie, because I'm curious and had friends that worked on it. It'll end up being like all summer movies, which is have one week at #1 then drop the ever next week.

If I were to boycott every movie Hollywood made that did not stay true to the book, I'd be boycotting more movies than not.

I'm not boycotting....I'm just not going to see it. I've seen the trailer numerous times and it does not appeal to me. Also, I don't care for Will Smith.

I don't remember no Kiera Knightley(sp?) or BLACK people( you would think Disney woulda placed some colored folks in that ride considering the location...or was that the pre-slavery Caribbean?) in the Pirates of the Carribean ride so I'm going to boycott the movie and the dvd.

I gotta be honest. Although I think the boycott is silly I won't see it because they cast WILL SMITH. Anyone else in the lead would make me go see it but not Will Smith.

I will see it. Why? Two words.. Alex Proyas. I trust him completely and think it will enthrall the people that see it.

Like said above, it is nothing new to uses names and such and disregard original source material. Look at the Lawnmower Man or the Shining. :eek:

I'm on the fence with this movie. The trailers haven't really grabbed my attention as far as the story goes, but I like Proyas, Moynahan, and Smith.

I've never really had a problem with the whole book/movie thing. I've seen movies because I liked the book and I've read books because I liked the movie. No matter which way it goes, it always a different experience. I've got no problem with movies being "based" on a book, on "in the spirit" of the book. Sometimes a great book opens up ideas in someone else that can be expanded to another level in a different medium.

I understood people boycotting Jeepers Creepers. I get that. But to boycott I, Robot for those reasons is silly. Especially when the guy says he's only boycotting the opening weekend. That, I don't get. :hscratch:
