best Gene Hackman performance

Which is the best performance?

dom56 06-25-04 04:09 PM

Gotta go with Mississippi Burning. He should had won Best Actor award instead of Dustin Hoffman.

wordtoyamotha 06-25-04 04:19 PM

Other. Hoosiers

Mopower 06-25-04 04:25 PM

What about Lex Luther in Superman?

"Best", not "favorite". That clearly is not his best performance.

IMO, Unforgiven is the best work of his career.

matome 06-25-04 04:44 PM

Unforgiven

MSD 06-25-04 05:03 PM

Superman

Lastblade 06-25-04 05:14 PM

Other: The Birdcage. He looks very sexy at the end as a drag queen lol.

MrX 06-25-04 05:18 PM

Where's Welcome to Mooseport?;)

Unforgiven would be my pick

OldBoy 06-25-04 06:06 PM

I really liked him in "The Firm" subtle and subdued, but when he realizes he's done to Jeanine Tripplehorn...that was pure acting.

Tarantino 06-25-04 06:07 PM

Love him in The Royal Tenenbaums.

Absolutely. Hard to beat this performance. In fact, everyone is great in this film. But Hackman is good in just about everything I've seen him in.

RyoHazuki 06-25-04 08:19 PM

Hey Welcome to Mooseport wasn't bad.

For me its tied between Tennenbaums and Mississippi Burning.

cruzness 06-25-04 09:23 PM

He rocked in Unforgiven

The Cow 06-25-04 09:24 PM

He was pretty good in Crimson Tide.

The Nature Boy 06-25-04 09:42 PM

"Popeye's Here!" will live as long as movies live. "You dumb guinea"

FC all the way!

wendersfan 06-25-04 09:59 PM

It's really tough between The French Connection and The Conversation, but I have to give it to Harry Caul.

Agree.

Lastblade 06-26-04 12:18 AM

I just watched Heist, he is pretty darn good in it too!

"All right! You put a shiv in my partner. You know what that means? Goddammit! All winter long I got to listen to him gripe about his bowling scores. Now I'm gonna bust your ass for those three bags and I'm gonna nail you for picking your feet in Poughkeepsie. "

eedoon 06-26-04 01:33 AM

He's great in The French Connection (haven't seen The Conversation yet, but I think I'll pick The Royal Tenenbaums.

TBFL 06-26-04 05:45 PM

How does Hoosiers not make this list ? That' his best.

From this list its Unforgiven, followed very closely by French Connection and The Conversation

rebdomine 06-26-04 07:43 PM

Unforgiven

William Fuld 06-26-04 07:50 PM

The Conversation

Playitagainsam 06-26-04 08:00 PM

Actually, French Connection II should be up there, on that list... I was surprised these wasn't an Oscar nod for the sequel as well...

Father Merrin 06-26-04 08:33 PM

The French Connection

gcribbs 06-26-04 09:05 PM

Had to go with my favorite performance which was in Unforgiven :)

DVDho78DTS 06-26-04 09:45 PM

Little Bill

Numanoid 06-26-04 10:35 PM

Superman IV: The Quest For Peace

Falc04 06-27-04 06:22 AM

He was excellent in "The Package", but from the list I voted for Little Bill.

rexinnih 06-27-04 10:05 AM

Went with Unforgiven but enjoy him in most anything.

agent2099 06-28-04 12:48 AM

too many choices missing

SomeVoices 06-28-04 04:35 AM

I'm going to have to go with The Royal Tenenbaums on this one.

[Royal motions to Pagoda]
Royal: He saved my life, you know. Thirty years ago. I was knifed at a bazaar in Calcutta, and he carried me to the hospital on his back.
Ari: Who stabbed you?
[Royal motions to Pagoda again]
Royal: He did. There was a price on my head, and he was a hired assassin. Stuck me in the gut with a shiv.

Great (and modest :o ) minds....

B.A. 06-28-04 08:26 AM

I can't believe he isn't getting any love for his superb performance in Tony Scott's ENEMY OF THE STATE.

;)

His role in THE FRENCH CONNECTION edges out his role in UNFORGIVEN.

mookyman 06-28-04 09:48 AM

"When I was five, my father introduced me to a friend of his, and for no reason at all, I hit him right in the stomach with all my strength. And he died a year later. He'll kill ya if he gets the chance. I'm not afraid of death but I am afraid of murder. "

Jaymole 06-28-04 09:55 AM

The Conversation

tommyp007 06-28-04 10:05 AM

Unforgiven, followed closely by Crimson Tide and The Conversation

AGuyNamedMike 06-28-04 10:09 AM

The Conversation

NOT an easy decision, as even when he phones in a role, he rocks.

Shannon Nutt 06-28-04 10:41 AM

Loose Cannons!

Just kidding - I vote for Crimson Tide, although he was really good in French Connection and Hoosiers too.
